Definative Drum Machine List?

I'm looking for a list of ALL drum machines ever built. Does it exist?

Wouldn't be too hard to figure out.

Are you only counting REAL programmable machines or even those old crappy organ-beatbox things too? There's a lot of those since the 50s. Ask Moby.

Crappy!?!?!

I like them. Very easy to use. You don't even have to program them.

I have been thinking of buying a cs60 but with all that I have been reading here and on other forms I am kind of scared about buying off eBay now. I guess over the years I have been lucky as everything I bought had been exactly as described.[ hell I even bought a 4x4 for my wife a few years ago off the bay, I like the idea Don has about putting up a fair trader list, I would be prepared to pay more from someone on that list knowing that I would get what I thought that I had paid for.

I think some of the pictures might be mismatched there but a fairly extensive database on drum machines, also groove boxes and samplers

Also I guess it might be worth while to make some category distinctions, if someone were to put together a wiki page for every drum aching ever built ( hey discofreq has cataloged nearly EVERY effect pedal ever made!!).

In my mind there are two easy divides for all these drum machines listed,

A) Tone generated from oscillator or sampler/rompler?
B) Select preset patterns, or programmable sequences?

MFB SEQ has trigger out, but it's a sequencer. TR808 has accent and 4 trigger outs. TR909 is midi era. Linndrum, DX/DMX have cv and or gate in but not out.
In general Gate outs is rare.

you may get a MFB SEQ-01... It has many outs that can support several voltage levels and can be slaved pretty well to sequencer clock.

4 years on Gearslutz and no mod ever bothered to correct the spelling error in the title. Call me weird or picky but it really makes it hard to take a thread seriously when there's a spelling error in the title...

if you want a complete list of all Preset drum machines, then check out the new book RHYTHM MACHINES - The Rise and Fall of The Presets by New Zealand based author Alex Graham. The book has nearly 300 preset drum machines packed into 200 pages and IS the definitive drum machine book. Packed with colour photos and notes on when the units came out, where they were made, useful features on them and in some cases which famous musicians used them. Out now on Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk at a very reasonable US$32.99 or 25 British Pounds. It has drum machines from Uk, USA, Japan, Italy, France, Korea, Taiwan, Holland, Belgium, Germany...
