Yamaha CS-30 Modifications

Hey all you Yamaha CS-30 owners. I'm looking for advice. I'm purchasing a CS-30 from a tech in Japan. If there are any useful modifications that can be added, it seems like now would be a good time to do them since he still has the synth open. I've seen Don Solaris' excellent modification instructions for the CS-15 (haven't had time to install them in my CS-15 yet), and I'm wondering if there are similar mods that would be useful on the CS-30.

Listed below are the mods that I think might be possible.

1. Would it make sense to add a switch to allow the two filters to be put in series? My tech thinks that it would be a fairly easy mod. But since I've never played the CS-30, I'm not completely sure that it's necessary. Here's a link where a guy speculates on how it could be done: electro-music.com :: View topic - Yamaha CS30 full 24db modification?

2. Since the CS-30 has a ring modulator, is it worthwhile to modify the LFO speed control (ala the Solaris CS-15 mod)? That might be a stupid question . . . feel free to set me straight.

3. Sequencer clock driven by external gate signal

Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Yep, it's Ko at Modeless Factory. I appreciate the offer of sending him your specs for the VCF and LFO mods; please do. And I definitely agree about not drilling the front panel!

Do you think that the filter mod will be useful on the CS-30? I understand the need for it on the CS-15, but in my ignorance, I'm unsure about how useful it would be on a CS-30.

I use the audio rate LFO all the time on my CS-15. Getting more range and better control would be great.

Just bought a CS-30 with original Yamaha case. It has a modification so you could externaly clock the sequencer. It has a switch on the back which when activated uses external in to trigger the sequencer.

The filters kan be put into serial mode on a stock CS-30. VCF 1 High Pass can be routed to VCF 2 input.

Add CV input to the Filters ! Very fun and very easy to do !

I would love to learn to do these mods myself. I have no idea where to even begin.

Two 1/4" jacks
4 pieces of insulated wire
4 resistors

Check servicemanual for value of resistors.
