Powercore X8

Any own the Powercore X8 unit?

Any feedback? Are the TC plugins that amazing?

Are the software synths you can buy with it (the soft synth Virus for instance) that good that its a good buy to get the Powercore?

Thanks,

Alex

I had one and sold it.
Firewire sucks.. simple as that. So unstable..

The plugs are OK, but not on par with UAD. The only amazing plug is the CL1B compressor, but you can buy that native now anyway.

Go native.

So many good options are currently available IMHO.

I only use mine for the VSS3 reverb.
If the Lexicon native plug is as good or better than the Poco will probably hit Ebay

I realised that the minute I got the email for the free M3000 verb.
It's the easiest way for them to publicly test their native core coding before porting it to the serious apps like VSS3. Plus everyone thinks they're the good guys cos they're giving away something for free.

I have the poco 6000 and the virus as well. The best plugins are the ones in the 6000 series and the virus, which sounds way better than most soft synths. The reverbs are very very good.

I paid 1030 £ for my 6000 but I don't think it would be worth it if you're paying that just for the stock plugins.

I don't have many problems with it. In fact, the only problems where that Fabrik R distorted the sound (I have a demo only) and the virus version that shipped with the unit crashed, but the last one seems fine.

I think at the price they were blowing the 6000 this summer it was a great deal, but I would never pay that for the X8 with the stock plugins only.

Gotcha, definately doesn't sound like its worth the money from what you all are saying.

Rather go with soft synths and maybe the poco 6000 at some point.

Thanks, you guys rock!dfegad

+1

I only use it for the VSS3 either and it seems a bit overkill for that.
If the Lexicon PCM plug-in wasn't so frigging ridiculous priced then I would have sold it for that.

I primarily use it for VSS3, CL-1B, and MD3 though some of the other plugs see some use as well (TapFactory, Chorus/Delay). I hope that VSS4 and MD4 are coming with the version 4 update. We shall see.

But that's not all.

In the beginning of 2010 we will launch a set of new exciting plug-ins for PowerCore.
I can't reveal details at this time, but I can say that we've learned from our history and will be presenting plug-ins that fall in the category of "frequently asked for" :-)
