It happened just several weeks ago.
I even planned to visit that studio and take some inspiration for my new facility, than all this $hit took place.
It's fvckin unbelieveable that municipal authorities that issued building permit (although for smaller building, so here Cretu really fvcked up things) were forced 10 years later by Spanish Supreme Court to demolish the whole thing.
Still it didn't work before authorities imposed personal responsibility to mayor who finally triggered 'restoring whole place to initial state' action. It costed almost 500.000 $ to 'clean' the plot.
Knowing that many buildings in Ibiza were built in much worse manner, it was kind of ridicuolus to show teeth to foreign celebrity and not to some of local home owners who did virtually same.
Michael Cretu overlooked the low, it's for sure, but not without assurance from authorities and now the biggest question is who is really guilty and can he compensate 24 M USD loss.
From studio construction engineers who did the marvelous job on this facility for more than 9 years it was confirmed that studio was one of a kind with 'out of this world' design elements and special order equipment.

It's the worst story I've heard for years.
Hopefully, Michael Cretu will re-integrate himself and make some great new Enigma project.
IMO the guy is one of the most gifted in business for last couple of decades.

Well ,I don't exactly know what "The Alchemist" is,I'm guessing a laptop?!
BUT the last 2 albums he did, especially the last one, suk beyond belief!
It's really embarassing for M.C.
The drums are awfull, and the overal sound is nothing but a VSTi affair.
I don't think he put the new studio in use that much!

Too bad...

Back to Cretu!

I found an interview in the german FOCUS-magazine from 1994: I try to translate:

Interviewer: You live in Ibiza, why did you leave Germany?

Cretu: We were looking for a wintering ground, the Canary Islands were too far away, in Sicily you never know what those maniacs will do and the Corsicans will blow up your house if they don't like you! Then we encountered Ibiza it was quiet and nice ...

... until the bulldozers came! Life can be so ironic!

Was he a little Lo-fi or is it my idea? That Yamaha old school monitor was good at its age, but the position is totally wrong...on the floor and at a corner!!! Also look at the two monitors the one is close to the wall...i can't understand..Didn't he care so much? Maybe this was the reason he was the best producer.. He focused on other things...

Eno was one of the few people to fully understand the DX7. Check out the Jellinghaus programmer in the upper left.

Can's studio, Inner Space.

It was completely dismantled (including the hundreds of mattresses on the walls) and rebuilt in the Rock and Pop Museum in Gronau, Germany.
