Hey sorry to be a total noob but someone refered to the use of an 1176 above - are those often used for detriot sounds? I like the plug i have (I know, I know) but see it mentione much more often fr rock music, and for live instrumentation and vox.

Any 1176 tips appreciated (same for LA2A/3A)

I'm also considering a distressor as my first outboard but that's another story...

Me too - great thread.

What do you all think of Juan Atkins' new LP? I've been enjoying it.

I'd guess Alpha Juno or JX8p. It sounds like one of the thinner Rolands.

The Alpha Juno was used a lot in early electro productions so it's quite likely to be that I think.
While we're on the topic of Alpha Juno's this is one of my favourite tracks made with one.
The producers aren't from Detroit, but Rob Hood used to play this all the time and it's very similar to his early productions... does that count?

Yeah, I bought one a few months ago and you can hear the AJ a lot in the older techno stuff and electro, the "proper electro" ofc, Dopplereffekt or Plant 43 etc., even today you can hear releases with AJ.
At least one of the Junos (or VST?)

There will come a time in your life when you will ask yourself a series of questions.
Am I happy with who I am?
Am I happy with the people around me?
Am I happy with what I'm doing?
Am I happy with the way my life is going?
Do I have a life or am I just living?
Do not let these questions strain or trouble you just point youself in the direction of your dreams find your strengh in the sound and make your transition.

Do not spend to much time thinking and not enough doing.
Did I try the hardest at any of my dreams?
Did I purposly let others discourage me when I knew I could?
Will I die never knowing what I could have been or could of done?
Do not let these doubts restrain of trouble you just point yourself in the direction of your dreams.
Find your strength in the sound and make your transition.

There will be people who say you can't - you will.
There will be people who say you dont mix this with that and you will say "watch me".
There will be people who will say play it safe, thats to risky - you will take that chance and have no fear.
You wont let these questions restrain or trouble you.
You will point yourself in the direction of your dreams.
You will find the sreangth in the sound and make your transition.

For those who know its time to leave the house and go back to the field.
Find your strength in the sound and make your transition.

All this talk of the AJ makes me feel bad as I haven't really dug into it as much as I should have! I've had it a while now and just haven't found the drive to really get to know it, the programming is just a bit of a drag for me personally...

Oh well, I'll give it another go!

Hey wisdom ; all i can say is AJ1 here and it s a bomb ... starting tweaking ; i realised how much i love it s tone ; all the envelopes settings are pretty effective to sculpt a movement ... i like its filter character too ... 250 euros ... i asked myself why i didn t had a go before . that s my only regret ... don t have a programer ... i edited some sheets with all parameters settings and take notes of every knob tweaking changes ... i do different styles i use it in different contexts ; at least it works for me and the aesthetic i like ... be it Dnb ; french touch ; house ; deep house ; sounddesign / soundtrack ...
did i say i found it pretty easy to program it even without a programer ????

PEACE

My fave synth!
Try a software programmer if you use a computer, there is Ctrlr, Alpha Juno Control, I use Au300 AU-300 Virtual Programmer for Alpha Juno and MKS-50

Really unlocks this synth in my opinion.

There's something about the sound of that track I don't quite like.
The music and the type of sounds themselves are ok. It's just something about the over all sound. Seems kinda small or something that I can't quite put my finger on.
Will have to check out the rest of the album. Thanks for posting

see, now dopplereffekt, I always thought must be using mks-80 for bass. always sounded slightly too large to be an alpha juno. I feel like it's gotta be a 2xVCO synth, and my mks-80 pumps out bass presets that sound like dopplereffekt all day long.

i also have read they used the mono/poly a lot, but I'm not sure how true that is.
I'm pretty sure I hear some 101 in there too.

The newer Dopplereffekt stuff sounds more like software to me. I'm not saying that's a bad thing.

Aye, Dopplereffect/Arpanet/Ultradyne have been using software for a while.
Still sounds great though.

Juno pads =instant Detroit atmosphere. The DX100 really does have the gritty bass thats gets so hyped. I am selling a great condition DX100 because i also use the dx27, which has the same circuit board and sound as the DX100. Send me a pm if you interested in my Dx100.

Oh, it was the same for me, but my computer got ****ed and I have only hardware for about 2 months now, didn't make a track or anything that comes close, but I built beats on my Boss DR-770 and often programmed my AJ.

The programming can be annoying but is as easy as every other subtractive synth (well I didn't really got behind the ENV settings to let it sound like I have in mind but everything else...)

It is more tricky than my loved Phutura VST but the sound is different, definitly...more character etc.

Do it, it is a Roland Poly that has it's own charme

Yeah sure, Drexciya used a lot of presets. Is like a who's who of Juno presets.

But to me (at least) it doesn't detract from my enjoyment of them at all. It does reinforce the notion that the music is more important than how they did it.
