Best For Digital Pach Bay? Lynx or RME?

I need to build a digital patch-bay (matrix mixer) on a PCI-Express Mac, and I'm wondering which would be better, a few Lynx AES-16 (PCI-Express version to be released soon), or the RME AES-32e system.

In reading the RME docs, it seems a documented use-case is it's anything-to-anything routing. But the Lynx AES-16 doesn't seem to have that documented (can it do it)?

My main use case is to hook up all my various analog effects that are attached to high quality AD->AES/EBU.

Specifically, I'm wondering if either of these (or something else?) have these qualities:
Can route one input to multiple outputs?
Can save mixer states?
Can do good-enough sample rate conversion?
Can expand to at least 32 Stereo I/O?
Can do 24/96?
Can create logical names for inputs (instead of input 42)?

ANY HELP SERIOUSLY APPRECIATED.

Maybe take a look at the new TC DigitalKonnekt x32

Main Features

it looks to be Firewire 400 though

I looked at it (even read the manual) but it's not clear if it lets me send multiple inputs to multiple outputs, and set the level/pan for each (like a big matrix mixer can).

best digital patch bay ?

the HDSP mixer can do that
im pretty shure Lynx mixer can also do that
im gonna purchase a lynx aes16 non SRC sooon

to test the 3000:1 Lynx SynchroLock™ vs. RME SteadyClock™
Lynx Asio Drivers vs. RME Asio Drivers
Lynx DMA pci vs. RME DMA pci

probably Lynx drivers are a bit better also wanna test that,
the RME latest bios&drivers have 32 samples but RME has a "safe-buffer" 32 samples means:: 32 input, 64 output, not 32in 32out like it should be

RME latest Bios&Drivers for WinXP also have a smart buffer size latency compensation that auto-changes Soundcard Buffer Size on the run if your CPU needs it, so audio doesnt get interrupted

that could be verry usefull or verry annoing, depending on the situation
Live performance, Recording, in Mixing its usefull

> Can route one input to multiple outputs?
Yes, any DSP mixer i know can, emu e-dsp can, etc..
in RME HDSP Mixer its verry easy, it has two ways, with faders and with the matrix
Lynx mixer seems equal as RME mixer
but dont see a matrix

> Can save mixer states?
the RME HDSP Mixer does save settings to the soundcard it self
i guess becouse its DSP,
the Lynx DSP Mixer also does that, ill find out soon...
the Emu e-dsp mixer its DSP but settings are re-loaded to last state in software in each WinXP bootup

> Can do good-enough sample rate conversion?

the aes16-src has sample rate conversions
(im gonna purchase the AES16 non SRC)
i dont know about RME aes32, i own a hdsp9632
but...
any behringer src2496 will do the trick!
AES/EBU,analog,spdif coax/toslink, etc..

the most simple SRC its to add 0000 to split the signal and play back at a higher Wordclock Speed the splitted signal with 000 to fill the gaps
11111111 = 44.1
1010101010101010 = 88.2kHz

> Can expand to at least 32 Stereo I/O?
you can put 3x rme or lynx at same time, with sample phase lock accuracy
if instlled following the owners manual

> Can do 24/96?
yes
but... it will need a incredible cpu & hard-drives to make mixes,
or fx-max.com teleport for pc, thers a similar software lan-cpu for mac cant remember its name

plugins eat twice and hard drive files eat twice
will need twice faster hardrive to have same channels (raid 0 or 1) cant remember if raid0 its fast or is it raid1
any good 250gb 1.5gps sata 7200rpm hard drive can record 48 channels at 48-24bits, with motu 2408mk2 with 1024 buffer size

recomended 2x western digital 750gb minium in RAID
WD perform better than seagate 7200.10 750gb sata hardrives
Western Digital WD7500AAKS 750GB SATA HDD - HotHardware
Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD7500AAKS 750GB Hard Drive - Big Bruin

> Can create logical names for inputs (instead of input 42)?
Hdsp mixer can rename any "white" name with the click of the right mouse button in PC WinXP
you can add any name but... in the mixer view will only show the first 6 digits/letters/numbers
but when you move the mouse over the name, it will showthe complete name

Lynx mixer ? = ill find out soon

> or something else?
digigram or sydec.be

--------
the only big diference for me is that Lynx does not have MIDI I/O
i care more about Drivers Performance, how much of the same plugin can i insert with monitor input activated without side effects
and how wordclock affects the sound, compatile with older wordclock recordings, etc...
