Otherworldly hardware recommendations?

I am looking for a new HW toy to create otherworldy sounds and atmospheres with samples and my external synths or on board synthesis on the new device.

Nothing set in stone.

Only things that spring to mind are Octactrack and Tasty Chip GR-1. Maybe some FX units that can do something out of the ordinary, I don't know.

Waldorf Iridium seems like it can go weird places too, but not really willing to spend that much.

The GR-1 is probably the front runner, but seems like it might get fiddly, wish you could sample straight to the device.

Any ideas?

Folktek resonant garden? If you think you might enjoy the sensation of stroking sounds from an electroacoustic hedgehog.

ASM Hydrasynth

Or add an Eventide Space to anything

Go places with Eventide... in a rack, in a pedal, as a plugin ... really simple stuff on a CraftSynth2 or an IKM Uno (both really good little boxes on their own) turns into wonderous stuff with amazing delays, reverbs and everything else ...

Ensoniq EPS16+
Gotharman Polyspaze
Korg 01w (No sampling but so otherworldly)
Kurzweil K2000/2500
Nord Modular G1 (Audio Input)
Roland Vsynth
Technics WSA1 (No sampling, but weird)
Yamaha EX5/7

I'm interested in the GR1 as well, this thread may push my gas to the limit (and therefore my credit card as well )

The DSI Pro 2 is great at creating all kinds of swirly, moving, atmospheric sounds. This would be my first recommendation based on your description, but really whichever synth inspires you to create such sounds will do

A Moog theremin is pretty otherworldy.

Analog Rytm...

Strange suggestion I know... if you like dark, moody, gritty types of otherworldly sounds, the Rytm is gorgeous sounding.

Let’s see....

DSI Pro 2. A synth, yes, but audio and CV i/o. Audio in can be a source in the mod matrix.

iPad Pro. One of the best $200 I’ve ever spent was on an iRig Duo to make my iPad a audio processing/synth monster.

Eventide H series effects. They break the bank, but they’re classics. Maybe one day I’ll pick one up... but until then...

Molekular. A Reaktor based multi-effect. Amazing results. Fun.

MXXX. Basically a modular effects processor where everything is modulatable.

The Nunomo Qun synthesizer is pretty good and won't cost you a fortune. It has a granular oscillator to mess with samples. There's a lot of menu diving though and it is monophonic.

I second this one. FDSP with samples can go to some strange places. Also Blofeld can get pretty alien and does samples.

Run them through Valhalla Ubermod for extra crazy

I second this!
There are really great and fantastic apps available you would not find elsewhere.

I highly recommend

Borderlands, Tardigrain, Spacecraft
Synthscaper, SoundScaper, FieldScaper
Shoom, Quanta, Dedalus
Aparillo, Audiolayer, Samplr
Aphelian, GeoShred, Drambo, Mozaic
...

I cannot mention all, there are tons of great Synths, FX and other interesting apps available!

An iPad Pro is a good Investment for musicians!

Additionally... I have just got the V-2.0 update to the Vector Synth... additive four-part 16 voice polyphony with swirling complex modulation opportunities... potentially quite different... before you pass it's stuff to Eventide!

EVENTIDE.

*Any* of their units, from the pedals up through the H9000, will get you there. Seriously: Eventides ARE otherworldly and can turn even the cheapest synthesizers into ethereal dream machines.

When I think of other worldly I think kawai k5000k, ensoniq fizmo, wavestation or wavestate. Definitely an eventide reverb adds to the space sound.

As somebody else has mentioned can you elaborate on what you mean by otherworldly.

And you mentioned samples, which everybody who is replying seems not to be taking into consideration, can you confirm you are looking for otherworldly AND the ability to utilize samples, as that requirement reduces the options considerably.

Kawai K1... no sampling but it comes up with some weird stuff. I wish I had the K1m rather than the K1r for the joystick but eh. Also I second the Blofeld.

I’ve got Borderlands and GeoShred, but not the others. I’ll have a look. Thanks!

A black one of these arrived, along with Ether v2. That's my weekend plans sorted out.
