I didn't really get into synths until I was in my later twenties in the late 90's because despite the mythological deals to be had on analog synths I was never able to afford any synths before then. On the left is my first ever sequencer and sampler which I purchased around 2002-2003.

Going with @ Bignatius here. "Mullet" was definitely used among my friends to describe hairstyles they mocked, admired and/or wore in the early to mid '80s. You had to be there.

As for nostalgia, I just wanna say Bootsy turns 69 next month, yet his new single bumps like it's 1979. Curious to hear if other funkateers in this thread agree/disagree (Shoutout to George Benson).

I had one of those portables, but it was strictly for computer storage!

That's one thing I never had was a boom box. Not sure why...

The first boombox I bought new - the summer after graduating high school. I had taken possession of my brother's older Panasonic before that (which had a better assortment of ins and outs), but I wanted shiny modern new and the ability to detach the speakers. So I had both (wish I still had my brother's - built like a tank). I did my first bounce recording with the dual cassettes.

This looks like the one I got from my brother:

Wasnt my first, but it was a really good budget mixer and the levels were always spot on, I would prefer that to what I have now for visual feedback of volume. I stupidly sold my Gemini mixer before that(the Cash Money mixer).

That's no pill bottle. That's the old version of this before it was castrated:

Back when stopping by the local pharmacy was like being best friends with Walter White.

I'm wondering if I'm currently feeling nostalgic about the time I didn't used to feel nostalgic about not feeling nostalgic.
or if it's just an imposter posing as a feeling of nostalgia. ummm so maybe I'm still not feeling nostalgic after all.

You're only experiencing this sense of non-nostalgic nostalgia because you're thinking of a time when not being nostalgic wasn't actually as cool as it now seems through those memory filters. Nostalgic non-nostalgia was fine, don't get me wrong, but not feeling nostalgic about that now is just your brain hearkening back for a more simplistic complexity.

A musician performing on Thaddeus Cahill's Telharmonium, likely around 1907.

The Telharmonium was an electrical tonewheel organ (like the much later Hammond Organ.) However, Cahill invented the Telharmonium before Lee De Forest invented the first practical "Audion" or vacuum tube. Therefore, for the Telharmonium to be heard, it required large dynamos to produce enough power to transmit the output signal throughout New York City where it could be heard in restaurants and theaters.

I still have one. I originally used it with my MSDOS 5.0 version of Cakewalk, and of course, Sierra and Apogee video games.

Is it like a predecessor to SoundCanvas?

Records pressed onto the backs of Post Cereal boxes around 1971. Artists were: The Archies, The Monkeeys, Bobby Sherman, and the Jackson 5.

In the early 90s, sampler CDs would be placed into cereal boxes. Then Interactive CDs with video games and cartoons. DVDs followed with much the same content.

Now it's free digital downloads.

Yea, it was the direct predecessor to the SoundCanvas. The big difference was that the MT32 used Linear Synthesis like the Roland D-50 - a combination of sampled attack and analog decay.

The Sound Canvas modules were all PCM samples as far as I know.
