I would probably go for something like a good jack or mozzarella. You don't want anything too stinky or too thin and runny because it will wear out your ears quicker and you don't wanna be messing with melted condiments when you got ear fatigue from hell, trust me!

Now let's see your credits on Discogs and talk about your "output" and "talent", shall we?
i've known the name for 20+ years, but never really listened to Junkie XL. wow, the first album is like a total second-rate Chemical Brothers and Prodigy clone. they even use obvious samples from both. part of me wishes that i had heard them in the 90s as i probably would have liked it (apart from the vocals), but i guess i'm glad i didn't waste my time on them.

looks like he's done pretty well since then though.

Had to mention the Kurzweil K2000RS and above, you never know - it might not even have been mentioned in this thread.

Yes, but he's really bad is my opinion.

His videos are very funny though.

"This is my modded drum machine. But modified by a professional, OK? Definitely not someone soldering in their garage or something like that."

Proceeds to demonstrate said drum machine.

Said drum machine promptly dies, live on video.

JUNKIEXLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!

You can still watch his video series on YT for entertainment, there are some hilarious segments sometimes (totally unintended).

"We turn on the arpeggiorator..." - JUNKIEXLLLLLL!!!!!

Another one:

Video is about making a bassline.

Proceeds to make the blandest bassline ever and spends the rest of the video tweaking this.

JUNKIEXLLLLLL!!!!!

Yes, he has a lot of output, yes he worked on known stuff, but he's almost comically bad (my opinion and I don't hate him).

BTW did he mention Kurzweil samplers in his vid?

The Dead Mouses and XL Junkies of this world are endemic of most everything that's wrong with the genres; hacks with a megaphone and an audience.

The Coors of beers, the Hershey of chocolates, the McDonalds dollar menu of burgers, those two, popular AF, but seriously lacking just the same.

Yep, good for them that they can make a living, but hollywood blockbuster comic book movie soundtracks targeted at pimply prepubescent boys has been the opposite of ground breaking on a musical level, no matter how much gear you throw at it. What's that thing about lipstick on a pig again...

I'm going to have to actually listen to this guy now. This is getting too interesting

Oh you weren't kidding Harry... he is the guy who did this:

That's a fun re-mix. That's a hell of a strong pig to lipstick on though.

Next I'll have to listen to his Scooby Doo work

This is definitely sacrelige:

I'm done now.

The 'arpeggiorator' is on his Roland synth video.

Of course, I paraphrased, but since I need more laughter these days, I might revisit all of them.

The drum machine one(s) are a must.

Comedy gold.

Different question: if you had to toil for 10 years making music like this so you could afford a studio like that, wouldn't you?

You're not wrong. As far as I remember Junkie XL made big big beat tunes about two years after big beat had been a fad. Music for the slowest of trend chasers.

I mean, even with Elvis singing it sounds like it's trying to sell air freshener or family cars.

I quite enjoy Junkie XL's film soundtracks - particularly Mad Max: Fury Road. I think he did a good job of bringing together an orchestral score that incorporates electronic and guitar elements cohesively, whilst still being in keeping with Brian May's scores for the first two films.

I've watched a few of his YouTube videos and enjoyed them on the whole, he seems like quite a funny guy who doesn't take himself too seriously. They do veer into gear porn quite a bit, but he did some tutorials ones as well that I found useful. I thought the drum machine failure one was very funny, but I assume he thought that too - he did upload it after all.

His sampler collection gives me a very real case of GAS. I love what he does with the Emulator II in that video.

Yeah he was a joke in the 90s, like an advertising guy who glummed onto the latest thing. Just can churn out generic versions of anything and now has a name that people think was good but he never was. Cornball ****. Congrats to his business though, but who cares. His youtube videos make it obvious he barely uses any of that stuff and why would he for the **** he makes anyway. A likeable enough dude, i like his videos.

So, he definitely has an account here.

Honest question, did you ever go out clubbing much? In dance music, the difference between a good and a bad DJ is pretty obvious. But I think understanding it requires that experience of tunes flowing in a dark room.
