Can anybody identify where this patch/preset came from?

This is hip-hop but I figured you guys would know the ROMPLERS better. This sound was used by Quik, Battlecat and Big Hutch/Cold187um a lot. I know Battlecat used the E-Mu MoPhatt, Proteus 2000, Roland JV-1080 and Korg Triton Rack and Hutch also used the JV-1080 and Proteus 2000.

It sounds a lot like the synth from Tom Tom Club's Genius of Love. I don't think these are direct samples though. Anybody have any idea what synth and patch this came from? It would have to have been available around 97-98. Thanks!

That sounds like a horn in reverse? Any Rompler could produce it if that's what it is...

Sounds like a reversed sample to me in every case, nothing especially exotic or distinctive.

Try reversing these clips first. That should get you closer to identifying the source sound.

Thanks for the help guys. Did most ROMPLERS come with a function to reverse a patch?

A few did, yes, but these sound like samples processed in a sampler to me, not ROMpler patches.

its just a straight sample off Genius of Love isnt it? The first sound you hear.

Played & produced by Steven Stanley on a Prophet 5 at Compass Point Studios in the Bahamas. Arp Odyssey used on those sessions too.

You may be right, thanks for the input. I think the Quik song might not be a direct sample though. Knowing Quik may have remade the patch.
