QasarBeach - recreation of the Fairlight CMI IIx. [Win, Mac and Linux]

I didnt find any topics about this interesting project here on Gearslutz

"This has all the features of the original Fairlight CMI including 16 stereo voices, full voice editing and realtime control, harmonic additive synthesis, full Page R sequencer and much more.

QasarBeach is designed to replicate the Fairlight CMI IIx. In this it follows very closely to the UI, the operation and also the command line interface. It then takes these concepts and expands on them giving you 16 voices,
stereo or mono samples plus a range of sample imports from 8bit to 24bit uncompressed samples, plus the ability to load in any Fairlight I, II, IIx and III sample voices."

This looks AMAZING, the harmonic synthesis especially, and wow, the list of formats you can load in is insane

And the “name your price” shareware/donationware-style distribution is unbelievable. I think this might really p*ss off a lot of companies who have made expensive CMI Kontakt libraries and VSTs.

I've been struggling to get this working on linux. Runs fine on mac. I can run it in wine but then there is terrible latency and crackly audio

The issue about software on different computer environments is to make it compatible with all hardware.

But any bugs or issues, should be reported to help the development of the software

It's not a hardware issue. I had to reinstall the os and now it is not recognized as an app. Maybe because I downgraded to 32bit. It did run on 64bit but I had midi issues with the app not able to even turn midi on.

Why would you run the Windows version through Wine on Mac, instead of just using the Mac version?

Read my previous post. I'm trying to run it on a linux machine. I also have a mac that runs it no problem. It's the linux machine that is the issue.

So. Back to square 1. I have now reinstalled 64bit and the program runs. However, midi doesn't work. It will not even turn midi mode on so there is a bug in the software that I will need to report.
So summing up, 64bit linux is required to run the app but midi is broken

Update: Adam Strange, the creator of quasarbeach is going to look at improving midi implementation in linux. in the meantime I have managed to get latency while running via wine down to an acceptable level and have got some improvement in sound quality. Still getting some crackling but is much better. These are issues related to wine and are not specific to quasarbeach. So anybody having issues running in linux can run the windows version in wine on their linux machine.

It seems like I cannot post Facebook links here on GearSlutz, but you will find it if you search "QasarBeach" on Facebook.

One of the admins from the Facebook group uploaded this usage demostration video today, it is German, but you can activate the subtitles:

Here’s the infinity DSM computer by the way:

Has anyone worked out if there’s an “auto fill” mode? Like drawing frame 1, 64, 128 and then getting it to generate the shapes in between?

I haven’t spent much time with it yet.

Thanks for the video. I have searched Facebook numerous times and the group does not show up. Is it a private group?
If you want to post a facebook link you have to put a space in after the www. part so it breaks the link and does fill it full of *****'s

You get a useable Windows 10 PC too...processor is a bit 2010 and the storage is small (could probably upgrade) but yeah, totally useable, and really f*cking cool looking.

Way ahead of you:

PS, I’d assume there’s a way in Windows 10 to make an EXE boot on startup?
