Hey man we were on the same page regardless!

Thank you. Glad you enjoyed the video.

Well done. Love the song and the effort you went to in tracking down the sounds.

Thank you! Many of them were discovered looking for other sounds haha. Over the years I would just put them in a Crockett’s Theme folder, but when I found THE melody sound on the DX7, I started thinking I should make a video. That was in 2017! Here we are!

Indeed! I’ve been wondering if the one dislike was from Jan Hammer though.

I thought it was the harp+some kind of processing too - it was a dead end i was stuck in for a long time until you came here.
So with that new knowledge, i got out of that dead end and made a new version with changed DX-7 lead sound (DEXED).
Of course it is still a long road ahead to perfection, but for now it is not painfully different anymore and can be played in my usual original summed to mono and my version summed to mono and hard panned configuration (full stereo A/Bing will come later).
Analog synth sounds are all emulated with Xhip.
Drums are Drumatic 3.
The MIDI file i found on the net is incomplete, so there are some missing/wrong notes (i added few of the missing parts but not all) and the tempo goes off at the end.
I didn't add the Fairlight/percussion samples yet.
Unison.sf2 "Bottle Blow" supports the lead line and FluidR3 GM.sf2 "Picked Bass" makes the guitar in the background at 2:01.
Not mixed, EQed properly yet.

Listen on headphones.
No need to say this because it is obvious, but my version is on the left.

Nice video!

Though I must say the Jupiter 8 bassline is a lot more complex and upfront sounding and you did not nail it sorry. But the rest is pretty great.

That distorted lead is spot on!

This a great version! I like it very much. The bassline almost got the same feel as the original but that one really is a challenge. A pity its all hard panned.... and the end is out of pace.

What midi file did you download/use?

Xhip got my attention too, great plugin to try out myself.

And how did you do the distorted lead guitar sound?
I also use DEXED. Care to share them patches?

Actually i don't like it very much, that is why i am planning to improve it over the next months and years.
I already have a next major version, with the correct ARR1 sample from Fairlight instead of that bottle blow i used in the previous version.

Just discovered how to make that unison bass say "puoa" like in the song, instead of my old sound that kept saying "pou".
Envelope modulates pulse width on 1 of the oscillators from around 60% PW at the start to maybe 95% PW at the end (the other oscillator is saw).

The LinnDrum is what Jan Hammer used on Miami Vice. You may already know, but for what it’s worth, there is no such thing as an “LM-2”—it was the LM-1, then the LinnDrum, and so on...

It was an unofficial name for it.

Not to derail the thread, but I hope Behringer will make an LM-3 soon.

A new 12 bit drum machine where you could load your own samples... that's what I want.
