I’d say the Hydra, it GASsed me the most this year (and still) but since it might not make it out until 2020, I’m going with the MC707. Mainly because I enjoyed it more than the Elektrons and Arturias and Korgs I picked up this year. It has surprised me over and over again with its depth and it just plain sounds great. I’ve been waiting for an accessible but versatile Groovebox, nay, idea machine for a while and the 707 really excelled in that area. Best sketch pad of the year, for sure.

Kudos to the Osmose, Super 6 and Argon, too, but unfortunately they also seem like 2020’ers.

And Poly D. I don’t care what it’s called or how you debate the semantics of the name, it sounds lovely. 2020 or 2019, Uli?

This is not the scope of this vote. I for one dont like faction-building at all. A synth can be gorgeous or bad wether i like the manufacturer or not.

Absusing this quote from another thread to bump this one.

Are we already done with the nominations? Looks like no synth from the caveat list will make it in time. They all will be on next years list of course.

I am looking forward to the votes starting next weekend. Will probably bump the nominations another 1 or 2 times tho.

This synth has been mentioned several times in this thread but no one has "officially" nominated it yet.

Let me be the first to proudly nominate the Arturia Microfreak!!!

This synth is freaking awesome!!! It should be on everyone's top five best lists of the year!!!

Behringer RD-8? Modal CraftSynth V2? Analogue Solutions Impulse Command?

There's also things like the Teenage Engineering modular for kindergarteners and the Rick & Morty pocket operator.. new dreadbox modules.. and no doubt a million other new eurorack modules.. but if nobody mentions them, maybe they don't make the poll

Did anyone get an Erica Synths SYNTRX yet? Was supposed to ship by the end of the year..

The Waldorf Kyra is in stores. I can’t nominate it, I’ve never actually played one, but maybe it should go on the list for consideration?

Well I don't have anything in that list because I did not buy any synths this year . I was strongly considering getting the Matriarch, but that GAS has worn off. I do have a Bro-1 on preorder, but I don't think I will see that until next year.

I did get a couple things that probably don't qualify since they are only synth controllers... the Yorick Tech Low Frequency Expander and the Stereoping Programmer (MKS-80 edition).

It appears to be official: the Super 6 isn't going to make the cutoff, but with the Hydrasynth already in a lot of hands it looks like it's going to get quite a bit of attention in the polling.

Aside from a faster multi-core processor and more RAM, the M adds a speaker, a microphone, battery compartment, (TRS) MIDI jacks, and a power switch (!); and it comes with a known-to-work-with-well-it wifi dongle. The first three make it a much more self-contained on-the-go music machine, which was always part of what the earlier model was about. The latter three make it that much more convenient to use in a variety of scenarios. I'd say it qualifies as different enough to count.

The other hardware synth (aside from the Organelle M) that I bought this year is the Haken Audio ContinuuMini. I'd like to nominate that as an affordable way to get the EaganMatrix DSP synth, an outstanding synth purpose-built for expressive control. (I know that Expressive E's Osmose has stolen a lot of the thunder here, but it's not out yet and some of us play controllers other than the black&white things.)

But that was released in 2018, right?

Here for the gear

For me, it's got to be the Behringer Odyssey.

Most stunning music ever made with one, and incredible value for money. Used it on several productions. Uli is a god.

The Kickstarter was last year, but they didn't start shipping until January 19, 2019.

I bought a few things on that list, but I think the minilogue xd checks the box, followed by the MicroFreak (or "NanoBrute", if you look inside) and the Behringer mono keyboard reclones that are currently shipping (MS-1, Odyssey).

As far as I'm concerned, if it isn't yet shipping, it shouldn't be on the list.
