New Modular MIDI Controller for Software Synthesizers – by Oscine

Hi Guys,

For some time, together with several musicians (and big synth enthusiasts), we've been developing the idea of a modular MIDI controller for software synthesizers.

There are so many nice softsynths, and no controller that solves basic operation problems (not to mention the more advanced ones). Labeled controls? High resolution? More than 8/16 knobs? Automatic MIDI mapping? And most importantly – the same workflow as when using a classic, hardware synthesizer? No such controller exists. Yet.

We decided to solve this problem once and for all by creating a modular MIDI controller designed specifically for software synths – in a way nobody else has ever tried.

Our project is in the early stages of development. We decided to post it because we would like to get the widest possible feedback. At the moment we have a short description and some simple sketches that are intended to illustrate the idea (please do not treat them as the final project).

You can read about the controller, and its features on our WEBSITE. At the end of the page, you can find a short survey – we would be very grateful if you could complete it. After all, this device is designed for you, and we would like it to be the best softsynth device that has ever been created (and also the first so advanced).

What are your thoughts on this idea?

the idea is superb.
but why limit it to soft synths?
is it THAT difficult to implement MIDI In/Out sockets along with USB ?
even 3.5 mm jacks would be super fine.

because there are plenty of modern hardware synths with too few controls and too much menu diving.

We also thought about it. I will say even more – we consider it quite seriously. For now we wanted to focus on the softsynths to make the description clear, but we also see the potential of controlling hardware.

Glad to hear that you like the idea!
