If in the JD-XA thread I probably missed it, hardly ever view that one

I can hardly understand that anyone can make sense of the Jupiter 8 versus Jupiter whatever debate. Besides from their names, they have nothing essential in common as types of synths. Maybe the sound issue makes sense in comparison with the boutique JU, but otherwise, it is kind of nonsense isn’t it?

I just came back from scrounging a few System-8 vs Jupiter-8 videos, and... they compare very well. I suspect the A Core Jupiters will do as well. Contrary to popular GS opinion...

Demo Videos

Roland went all-out on the YouTube video reviews for the new Fantom & groove boxes. When will we see a proper YouTube demo for the Jupiter Xm?

This little synth may tick a lot of boxes for me!

Cheers,

Phil

I suspect we will see more demos when the X is ready.

I get nothing much out of this at all, but it’s another snippet of the XM out in the wild for what it’s worth. Whatever bits and pieces we get...come on, Roland, you should be leading this with posts and videos (as you are with the MCs and Fantom).

I'm starting to fall asleep, but checking out Google just now, I saw a couple of demo videos I hadn't seen before. If someone more woke than me knows they haven't been posted before, I'd sure like to find them in here when I wake up tomorrow morning.

I actually did a whole thread on the subject. I agree there would be a lot of interest.

I’m on it. This week I’m going to make vids of the various onboard models and respective presets.

ANd pretty please with sugar on top
A showcase of Va and pcm osc sync and various x-mod'd , with the standard waveforms.
Also a showcase of the va filters , freq and reso tweaking ( saw wave ) and no effects

Yes please, I'm interested because I have a long wait to try out the mc707

As gentleclockdivid says, love to hear the filters and envelopes with no FX

You beautiful man!

Really keen to hear the Juno sound on this vs the JU06 and if possible a real Juno 106

Interesting observation!

I thought the Synthgraphics white overlay looked especially nice.

I think that if you start by looking at it as a single voice synth (i.e. activate just one part for sound and editing), it is pretty equivalent to other knobby single voice synths... but the fact that you can use those same controls to also program multiple other layered (or multi-timbral) voices does mean that the potential for additional parameter tweaking is enormous. But I'm not sure there's any way around that, on any board that employs multiple separately programmed voices.

AFAIK, the new ones are supposed to be able to emulate the Jupiter 8, sound for sound, and function for function, similar to the Boutique, though they use a different tech from the Boutique, and also have many additional non-JP8 synth sounds/functions as well. I guess we won't really know how close it gets to the JP8 (or the Boutique, or similarly ACB based System 8) until they get into the wild.

You are surely the finest man who ever lived.
(Peter O'Toole, Casino Royale)

You're super popular right now!

Just to reiterate about how well the Roland VA tech captures the essence of the originals, the System-8 Jupiter plug-out is really close. According to Roland, the ZEN-Core and A-Core engines are supposed to sound pretty much identical, even though it seems the only modeling in the latter two are oscillators, filters and possibly the amps and mixers - the audio path. The modulators are all software, unlike ACB in which the whole synth electronics are modeled. It makes sense that they would sound pretty much identical, but the proof is in the acid.

If our friend Goldphinga happens to have a Juno-106/60 and Jupiter-8 lying around, that would be a perfect opportunity to take them on a comparison spin. If not, J-Xm demos work just fine.

That was what I was wondering. It would be great if they nailed the sound. It would be way better if this synth has multitimbrality, I couldn't find a lot about this.

Seeing as it's not made by a certain company, I'm not sure why you'd be interested... But it's four part multitimbral and a drum part if I understand rightly. And each part/patch has up to four oscillators from the layout of the Jupiter-X front panel.

Yeah I’m confused too:
- Jupiter
- JP
- JD (Jupiter Digital?)
- JD-XA
- JX
- JV (Junior Varsity Jupiter?)
- XP

I think I’m one who wishes the Jupiter-X was a Jupiter-XA (all the cool sh*t of the JD-XA with 4 more analog voices and a fixed LP3 and fixed sequencer and all the look of a Jupiter-8)

I would have liked to have seen a knobby Jupiter desktop module from Roland. Speaking of which....what was their last (non-Boutique) proper desktop? The SH32? Man..that was years ago.
