Must not forget my Faeroese brothers/sisters, so here is Valravn, a Danish/Faeroese band with similar concept as Sorten Muld, though I do not find them as strong as far as catchy melodies concern but the moods are great. Valravn is a bit more on the dark side, obviously.

Some great examples here, especially Folkerny.

According to Sorten Muld's Facebook page, it appears they have reunited for upcoming events in September this year.
Unfortunately, I don't live in Denmark anymore
Are you from Denmark IncarnateX? In which case you have no excuse, but to go along

I don't normally advertise my own stuff around here, but I did do an album along these lines of the bands above back in 2010, which some of you might find interesting.
Mixing could be better and a bit messy in places, but still has some interesting ideas.
Unlike the artists above, it pulls from genres all over the world. The idea was to call it 'Around the world in 18 beats' and have 18 tracks from 18 different countries. Didn't quite work out that way, but I got up to 14 in the end I think.

Yup, I am. I think it was in 2011 Sorten Muld went touring again but no new material apart from a little contribution to an album made with several artists. And no, there is no excuse for not going back to the roots whenever they get near.

Just encountered this when searching. More Scandinavian moods with subtle electro percussion later in the song.

2011 eh. Damn, I've been out of touch with them for quite a while, which is rather easy when no new material is released.
I'm considering whether I can attend one of the concerts in October. We'll see.

Eivør is pretty good. I wish there was more synths though.

Another group I quite like is MIDIval Punditz.

It's a shame Medieval isn't spelled Midievil.

In the 90s there was the swedish guy called Nordman that fused nordic melodies with electronic elements. Vandraren (the wanderer) is one example of his music.

Another vote for QNTAL and Dead Can Dance.

In the sort-of list could go
* Danheim
* Will
* Angelic Foe
* Two Steps From Hell
