I'd say you hit the nail on the head there.

A good practice, when posting some infos like that, is to always link to the source if possible, even if it's just an official Behringer page. Obviously you didn't take that picture yourself, but if the source is you, then disclose it as well.

I understand that the Polysix module renders looked really good, but they were obviously not photos. However, "let's make a PCB and post it" is a really long con for an individual.

Lets hope they model the chips inside on the Grey Meanie as that model is considered to have the best sound.

Trouble now is that we have to choose between buying the forthcoming Boddy or waiting for this.

I guess the mods will end up merging the threads after you've started that other one.

Uli, send me a PCB and BOM and I'll build it for you!

Oh, and I see a few extra sliders on the bottom row. That could be interesting!

I wonder if it will come with an attachable CV keyboard like the original. That would be fully iconic.

Let’s hope they do the upgrades listed at https://discretesynthesizers.com/arptronics/arp2600.htm as standard.

If they must include the spring reverb, let’s hope they pick a big one.

Quite right. This is the one and only Behringer New Synth thread. Whether it's the 2600 clone or not it's speculation.

so, layout-wise interesting and in terms of functionality a tad different to the 2600

vco 2 & 3 look identical

lower part of pcb has more changes, i.e. voltage processors, s&h, noise rearranged, with some extra sliders

no speakers!?! WFT, man, can you even make music with that?!....

guessing from how much the sound of the odyssey clone has been lauded so far vs the karp, and what's there in terms of audio previews, I'm confident that they will nail it, maybe better than the MS101

does summer 2020 for $599 sound realistic?

why not put in all filter revisions like korg does? Otherwise it's a waste

I’m not a fan of the ARP 2600 but still thank Uli for bringing this to the life. It’s unfair that classic synths are insanely overpriced and most of us can’t even think of buying one. This clone is a new opportunity for some people to experience how a 2600 sounds and what a 2600 is.

yes the free market is really unfair, planned economy would be much cooler.. I could finally afford one of these overpriced Ferraris.

It's certainly an interesting use of the front panel real estate.

From my cursory study of the board:

*Initial Gain slider is now vertical.
*Mixer or Reverb sliders have been moved (my guess is it's the mixer)
*There's still a L and R out (and they look to be 1/4")
*Multis have been moved toward the center
*Sliders for the L and R speakers removed (in addition to the speakers)
*Envelope Follower and Ring Mod have been moved, probably to the extra sliders where the left speaker used to be
*Oscillator, filter, envelope, and amp section look to be intact
*There's some extra sliders in the former-left-speaker cluster that don't make sense to me at first glance

edit:
*VCO3 seems to have the same waveforms (and sliders) as VCO2
*There appears to be an extra slider in the filter section (possibly accounting for the additional wave from VCO3)
*looks like there might be two noise sources, possibly accounting for the additional sliders at the bottom

It'll be interesting to see what form the reverb takes. I daresay a real spring reverb tank is actually on par or cheaper than a digital effects board. I wouldn't at all be surprised if they went digital with the 'verb but I'm hoping for a tank.

A bit of a shame about the speakers as there's lots of interesting sounds to be had by micing them and using the sympathetic resonances of the synth case (much like how you can do some gnarly things with a ****ty little solid state amp and a mic). I guess Uli's team figured we can buy our own crap speakers. ;-)

Overall, given what I know about some behind the scenes legal rumblings over trade dress this 'New Behringer Synth' looks to be differing in the layout just enough to squeak under that magic "looks too much like something else and might confuse consumers" threshold.

Seeing the board versus a "Hey isn't this a cool rendering" gives me a glimmer of hope this will emerge as an actual product (much like the D, Neutron, VP-340).

Good point about the speakers, but I'll wager a friendly "told you so" if it does turn out to not have speakers. Behringer desktop faceplates tend to be the entire UI, so unless they decide to put speakers on the sides I'm sticking with no speakers in the case.

A BBD delay/verb would be less interesting to me than a real spring.
