Is MPC LIVE serious step up from MPX 16?

I have been using the Akai MPX 16 to trigger samples for live shows and it sufficed in the beginning when the workload was a few short samples however the sound quality is not that great and the saved kits take too long to load between songs.

On the Positive: THe MPX 16 is extremely easy to use. THe learning curve was about an hour!

What is the learning curve of the MPC LIVE? I assume the sample playback quality is far superior to the MPX 16?

Is the MPC LIVE a serious step up and perhaps overkill?

Just to trigger samples the MPC is overkill for sure. It's a full sampler workstation with sequencer.

Maybe something like a Roland SP404 would be a better choice for that. It has better sound quality than the MPX.

Or look for a Korg Kaoss Pad 3.

yeah, a bit overkill if you simply want to trigger samples

Looks like you need a Roland SP404sx. MPC Live is crazy overkill.

I don’t like the displays on either of those. They seem more like drummachines

Yes the MPC is a sampler/sequencer/hardware DAW.
