Wait, so even though you wrote "We will have to make do" when asked about the autolocator, it actually does come with one? Your response implies that it didn't.

BTW, let me point out that calling women "girls" or "hot chicks" (as you did earlier in this thread) is really kind of neanderthal behavior/speech (?!!!). This is a public forum. Please try to tame your retrograde impulses and a maintain modicum of sensitivity. It's not just your "mates" reading this. See ya! Ta!

Really?? This is western taliban attitude in my opinion. Why not just relax and enjoy? Women do the very same with males all the time. They call this irony, joke, fun, whatever. It alludes to the fact that he saw a women who was nice-looking, beautiful, perhaps even sexy, you name it. What's wrong with this??
"Neanderthal behavior" is indeed insulting, not making an amusing comment, even if you would personally use different words to express the same concept.

I had to check on the main page to see if we've gotten a new moderator as it seems we have a moderator/politically correct officer wannabe posting as one.

I'm about as sensitive and respectful to women as you can get, but your outrage over this harmless comment is way over the top on the "sensitivity" meter, and as it's been mentioned, very similar to the Taliban moral police.

Please think twice next time before forcing your misguided morality on everyone else in this forum, you've just made yourself seem petty and foolish.
thank you

Gearslutz posters using Taliban in a petty argument reminds me of that quote in Princess Bride: "You keep using that word, but I don't think you know what it means."

Anyways, I think buying a 7.5k AUD tape machine for home use in 2018 is a dumb investment when that amount of money could be spent on sending your tracks to someone who does professional mastering.

well thank you for your deep thoughtful comments, not only about our reference to the Taliban, but for calling out the OP as making a dumb investment based on what you would do.

It was a way of comparing extremist beliefs and forcing that belief on someone else, so it's not that weird. I'm sorry you don't feel we're as sophisticated as you are, but at least we both like that very funny film.

Maybe Lastbyte can come around and get her all going for me!
Oh man oh man.

This reminds me of when a friend of mine, who is an accomplished engineer with mad skills, tracked his album on that exact same model of machine which was perfectly mantained in the studio where he worked.

Same attitude as you, except that he had some experience with tape and should have known better.

It sounded like complete ass.

Good luck!

I'm curious how you get at a 500+ lbs machine out of an attic? Perhaps you meant just an upstairs room. Regardless, I would hire someone to move it. They are insanely heavy, and of course quite delicate.

Attic room upstairs, looks like an attic. Anyway they move grand pianos in less room, all will be fine

I just can't let this go, where I come from we call a good looking woman, girl, hot, sexy, cute, pretty, beautiful, so on and so on. I prefer hot and sexy... how is disrespectful? seriously?

Update your terminology bro, we aren't cave men anymore!

Soon we won't even be able to refer to eachother as men or women. I take offence anytime I hear a woman call me a dude or god forbid compliment my features.

Any updates on moving this machine? A couple of occy straps and it hanging out of the boot of your car and she'll be right. Sorry I shouldn't have said she'll, how bloody rude of me.

I just don't understand how we can turn a simple thread about a tape machine into what we should or cannot say, slightly annoyed but I am happy again now!!

I should have it home in the next few days.
Super excited to have it home, I might encounter a few delays but will not be long now.

The OP was making a lighthearted Australian vernacular comment which obviously you don't understand. He's an Aussie, if you find what he said offensive then please don't head over here because you'd be in meltdown the first time you set foot into a pub or live music venue.

OP: On the tape unit, make sure you have three hands on deck if moving it downstairs, I've seen two people moving one of these down some stairs and it got away from them - the result wasn't conducive to having a working tape machine.

Good luck with the move.

That is half the value of the machine, so basically it is not really a bargain at all. The machine should really be in another room for quiet.

The point of this forum is for people to impart knowlege. Sometimes that involves reality-checking people. Whether they take it onboard or not.
I actually thought part of the remit in thinking Studio tape op/assistant now called slave, yet previously known or thought “Tape Op” was for Studio Engineers who had a 3M or Otari to MCI JH-16 or 24 2” machine and maybe an Auto Locater MK 1 or II as until the AL/MK III came along?.... As, well using an MCI JH-16/24 was just a Time Lag of 30 seconds? Huh?

I’d always wondered why I was employed to Hit Play, FF, RW, Punch In/Out and Record plus Arm, on 2/4/8/16/24 Tracks to setting up microphones, reset and clearing to reordering the consoles, learn slowly, Always.. Reply yes to everything and even go into arming and punching in those, 2-4, 1-24/ 1-16 Tracks in, out, ready...etc! Even Record! Let alone.. Clean up, vacuum clean up more, empty ashtrays make coffee, go, fetch, (insert watch debauchery) by those filthy rich clients as star people. Let alone staff! Learn obverse and see more debauchery!

Most true don’t thump those VU meter Needles into broken stuck pins, that’s not good! Doesn’t that SSL Matrix do 24 channels plus a Quad Bus? So desk should be fine? Studer Machines don’t have the huge, sucking Heat sink Fans others do, well not to the same degree pretty quiet those 827 models! Talk lucky break man, sheesh!

Hz. Has a point here don’t hit the machine too hard in level, as then well you’ve totally lost the bargain!

So reading up?

Did you Score the Hot babe? That’s what I actually want to know? Poor woman, and you rock up cashing her up?

Hot babe deets?

Cue wah Guitar Chords,

“Oh Looney you Studio dreamboat”..., Studio Lord, Looney “Yeah pretty poor grieving baby”, maybe how about you make me an offer... I can’t refuse, really I’m selling everything you see here, as well as my.....l

Carn on..gis alll... da lowdown on the Mowtown Looney?

Score or

Carpet Burn?

Joke! Joke! Please no for real stuff!

So Studer 827 from heaven.. ahem, what’s the result?

Yeh dude I been there. Got schooled on note specific drop ins on 2" 24 track by Fred Wesley when I was 22. I didn't realize the full significance of that till many years later. Honored and amazed. It's a smal world.

Nice score on the machine.

I've recently gotten an old 4 track 1/2" MCI and an 8 track 1" Otari for giggles, they were cheap and I can use the transformer line amps. A few tings I've learned; For starters, I have a lot to learn. Old gear needs a recap at some point, even if it sat there doing nothing. Techs are expensive and getting rare. Gonna get a tech to help restore them but need to maintain them myself. Gotta get a scope and test tapes and learn how to use them. It's going to be a lot of work to restore these machines but I want to learn how to do it while there are still people alive who can teach me. I sometimes wonder if the time is worth it as opposed to investing in a Studer. There's a lovely 16 track 800 2" for sale locally for $4k. 24 track 827s have gone for $11k-$15k recently. I also bought a 24 channel Dolby SR XP rack for a couple of hundred, recap hell. I suggest joining Tapeheads.com, lots of helpful advice.

I don't think you'll ever regret buying the finest machine made. Glad it's leaving the attic and will live again. I hear the heads last forever.
