Behringer RD808 Analog Drum Machine

It sounds like Acidlab nailed the long decay and inconsist behavior of the bassdrum in the Miami although the actual tone of the bassdrum differs slightly from the 808 (808 bassdrum has more harmonics). The decay in the Miami is actually longer than the decay in the TR808 it is compared with in this video below and you can clearly hear the variations in pitch and decay when notes are triggered closely. This is the only 808 clone that I can recall that actually nailed the behavior in the bassdrum.

It sounds like Behringer got the actual tone right in their RD808 and closer to the original TR808 but I'm thinking the decay is shorter and the inconsist behavior characterized by the original TR808 and the Miami is there somewhat but not quite as noticable.

@ uli , can your RD808 bassdrum have a more extended decay at maximum decay setting similar to the Miami in this video (without Wave Designer or filter applied) and behave like the bassdrum in the Acidlab Miami or TR808 in this video? You can hear it at 0:16 and again at 2:50. Roland's ACB modeling fails miserably at this:

To be fair to him, Brexit is an ungodly mess and depending on what tarrif schedule we end up on if we end up crashing out is anybody's guess. Before tax you can expect 5~7% extra in import if the USA's schedule is anything to go by.

Bulk of the price difference is still tax, however.

I am. I’m 55 and was into synths in the early 80s... I want to get the 808 and hopefully a Jupiter clone.

The only musical equipment I have is a bass guitar....I’m not much of a slut.

..but you're hooked!

They are the sort of things that were very expensive back in the 1980's, way too much for us mere mortals. Even if we could raise the cash, it was better spent on a car or something useful.

From the demos so far it is clear to me that it sounds even better than the original. Given the fact that the drum bass sound [kick] is excellent, it would be nice if Behringer through a firmware update could make possible the pitch to be assigned accurately in the desired steps.

I know that the pitch of the kick sound can be modified on the fly by twisting the knob, but I’m talking about static accurate adjustment so to be able to produce and record drum/bass line melodic progression [A – C – B – G, for instance etc]

I don’t know if this technically is possible to be done through a firmware update though.

Anyway, I think the Behringer RD 808 is a really great drum machine. I like the classic look, but at the same time it looks modern and better than the original, and the sequencer it has 64 steps, instead of the 16 ...[variation A/B].

Can’t wait to see when it will be available at Thomann.

I seem to recall one of the videos stated the pitch can be controlled via MIDI.

Ha ha, yeah. However, the problem with making the machines so cheap is that there will be a lot of similar (and bad) music coming out because now everybody will have an 808/909 and a Boog/Crave/Neutron.

It may well be a case of pearls before swine!

Stop selling so many boxes Uli! Market saturation is not a good thing! :D
