Waldorf Microwave xt

Dudes, I bought a Waldorf Microwave XT today. a black one. going to pick it up tomorrow.

I understand it is basically the new Stromberg, but then without the filters and FX (toob), or am I wrong in assuming this?
Wavetables
Anybody got some neat tips for some spinescraping bass or eyeballshattering leads? heh
I found these pages - which are cool. is there more?
Tips? Do's or don't's?
I'm all psyched!
Thanks!

If you're on a Mac, you might want to check out the editor that Michael Fielitz wrote for the Microwave series (MW 1, 2 & XT). I've used the editor for my MW 1 for a while and have found it to be very useful. It's probably not quite as much of a necessity with the XT since it has so many knobs (the original MW 1 only has a single knob), but it's always nice to have supported editor. Micheal is a great guy too!

Also, check out the Microwave XT group on Yahoo as an additional resource

I love my MW 1 for the analog filters, but 've always wanted to play with an XT. Have fun with the new machine!

and where could I find those? a google only revealed a keygen for PC kraks LOL

I downloaded the editor, looks nice, I'll try it alongside sounddiver.
It strangely feels like I should have done this earlier.
but well I didn't have the bread back then in 1998.

Thanks all!

I don't think they've done anything for the Microwaves. The only presets I only see on the Vengence site are for the Q/Q+, Micro-Q & Pulse/Pulse+.

whoo, that's not for me that sort of thing.
not trying to be a dick or something, and I appreciate you guys pointing me towards that, but they're expensive, and the sounds are mainstream retro techno-rave stuff. (I lived through acid, techno, gabber etc. - and it didn't kill me ) I kept my alpha juno LOL
-If you want that sort of thing DO check out the old Quasimidi stuff. Killer boxes for that, and not too expensive. (ye ye I'm dutch, I know I know)

I'm going a bit more this way. heh

My intention is to try to come up with some fresh stuff, allthough maybe a patch or two, three might be a good starting point. It's not a modular, but from a quick glance, you can modulate about anything with anything. And it has a random. So far so good.
I think I'll start with some basic dirty basses (I read the MW2 has a bass boost in the voicecircuit), and esotheric pads (aaaah ooooh LOL to complement the Korg and Fizmo), and check out the external input- to feed it. also I'm psyched what kind of weirdness waveforms will show up on the scope.

If you guys know more sites with patches, and programming tips, please! don't hold back! maybe we can turn this into a thread with some good starting points for all waldorf users, cause the new stromberg they're making can play "old" patches as well. seems that is the one to go for, if you want e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g heh

Microwave 1 OS 2.0 sysex
2 more patches

Only thing I can't figure out, WHY didn't I do this before?

- I'll pick it up in about three hours, first my conscience is telling me I have to finish some administration. (again?! )

for those that understand german, here is a very interesting interview:

mmm you can edit the wavetable components in the XT -- make new ones

Yeah, I don't care for presets either, but I find them to be a useful starting point to learn the architecture and sonic capabilities of a synth.

I think using this thread to share tips and ideas for programming the Microwaves is a great idea. When I have access to my gear again, I'll dig up some of the patches that I have for the Microwave. I just moved recently and am still waiting for all of my studio gear to be delivered.

Judging from the likes of the .mp3 that you posted a link to, I really think you'll enjoy working with a Microwave. Once you become familiar with the synth's layout and modulation matrix, you'll have fun with assigning various cc messages/knobs to destinations in the Microwave. Be sure to try assigning multiple parameters, but with different values/mod amounts, to the same knob. I do that with an external MIDI controller. It's a lot of fun to jam with the beast, creating weird, evolving, experimental sounds and tweaking them in real time. I also like to overload the outputs of my MW with too much gain from the oscillators, creating a aggressive, distorted feel. I then run the distorted sound through the filters to warm it up a bit & to keep it from shredding ear drums.
I just wish I had the programmer that Access once made for the MW 1. The MW 1 only has one knob on the face. --- Tip for other MW1 users: if you own an Access Virus, you can also use it as the programmer for your MW. I had and then sold a Virus long before I got the MW (didn't like the sound of the Virus).

Let us know what you think of the XT after you've had a chance to spend some time with it.

BTW - If you're not already familiar with him, check out some of the work of Vladislav Delay

Hey great! thanks for the tips! I have one of these behreghringer knobby contraptions that doesn't die inmediately under my care (like their mixers do)
I'll keep an eye out for the programmer. ---
It seems the ties between waldorf and access are strong. (waldorf guys worked on the Virus TI)
the other programmers (for matrix 1000) pop up sometimes on german evilbay, are those of use too?

I heard of vladislav delay, but didn't hear anything he made yet. so thanks for that too, I'm going to pick it up now and let you guys know eeh next week? LOL
maybe post a sexy pic later when it's here heh

you lucky bastard for finding one of the "shadow line trim" versions! I heard they only made a ltd. edition of 666 in that color.

want a stromberg? buy a mwxt and a Q+ and you'll be in business.

Oh, I like the styling a lot, but the orange one I like too. heh It's a bit rarer I suppose.
The quality of build is very good. It's pretty heavy too, and that isn't the PSU.
It was a local find. I'm happy, I think I filled a hole in my setup.

mmm so it's both of those & the extras and display.
It'll be a while till I get my head around the MW XT. It's pretty deep. heh

I have just sold my XT, as I was not enjoying as much as of late and I need more outboard. I found it to be a great programmers machine. After listening to the example of what type of things you are looking to do, this is your machine. I used it for mutating, everchanging stuff...

Congrats on the XT, how are you liking it? Do you know if the filters analog or digital? I googled but havent found out about this detail.

thanks, I'm liking it. Didn't have time to go deep into it, but so far so good. heh
the filters are digital, I think it fits with the character of the machine, and I got some filters in my doepfer, if I want analogue. So I didn't really care about that difference.
the only waldorfs that have analogue filters are the wave and the first microwave.

The original microwave went through some changes:

Revision A had Curtis CEM3389 chips incl. 4 pole VCF w/Q

Revision B had Curtis CEM3387 chips incl. 3 pole VCF cascaded into a 4 pole VCF w/Q

Just got my XT

Was wondering if anyone would be willing to share their patch banks, and/ or post some good tips and tricks they've learned?
