March 2018 Derp's New Gear Thread

I'm surprised nobody's done a thread for March. So here's what I just nabbed on sale at PluginBoutique:

Now I just need Fracture XT and I'll have the whole Glitch Machines collection.

I picked up an Alesis Midiverb and an Alesis Nanoverb locally for what I think was a good deal.

March 2018 Derp's New Gear Thread-alesisx2.jpg

The Midiverb looks to have been sitting for a while.

Nope!

I haven't messed with Polygon yet, but I'm digging what Subvert can give you. These plugins feel like cheating because of how intense the randomization parameters are. I will say I'm probably not the person to be asking about how good they are because honestly, this is a WAY different workflow than I'm used to. I work with samples all the time, but more creating melodic patches from modular samples. Creating and hacking apart my own noises is new territory for me. I'm digging it very much, but there's definitely a honeymoon factor going on since this is such a new workflow for me.

Another one of those 'I bought it to flip, but now I'm keeping it' scenarios.

Mackie Mix5

Just got a Mackie Mix5 to use with a cassette recorder in order to have it function like an echo/general cassette processor. I wanted something smaller than the deck itself, to keep the footprint low (tried to make the Echo-Matic circuit-in-a-small-box, but no luck nor time to keep at it).

Since the player's input is mono, there's no need for a mixer with an aux send. I rather use the pan pots as send/feedback controls.

As a bonus the instrument can be overdriven and equialized on channel one.

Using the iRig as an interface, this makes a rather portable solution for having some fun. Needs two power supplies though.

I surprised myself and bought the Digitone first before the Moog DFAM I was looking at. They're very different but this synth seems more in line with the music that I've been making recently. Still looking at the DFAM and planning on it later this year. Both are incredible and I think together they give that amazing sweet spot of Digital + Analog.

Nope, what I'm getting doesn't seem to be in that image, if I inspected the image properly...

The problem isn't really an aesthetic one (well not the main problem) - they're just large enough that my fingers bind between adjacent knobs. It does look a bit "steampunk" I suppose.

At least it was a cheap experiment @ $11 from CN.

Got the old 909 back from the doctor's today, finally with a 100% clean bill of health! Got to say AME really hit it out of the park with this one; amongst other issues, it had a really hard midi problem to solve produced by a lot of electrical problems. (Super Genius note for the day: USB 3.0 does not always play nice with many midi interfaces, which can then in fact introduce electrical problems, including surges and shorts in other old vintage pieces of equipment.) And they were very light on the charges which I appreciated it a lot, as it was a problem we've been working together to fix on and off for almost a year.

PS: I'm now running the 909 separately on its own little iConnect Mio which runs on the internal MIDI Driver of Windows and therefore seems to be pretty safe so far.
