Incredible Synth Performances

Okay everyone, here's what I'm thinking. Every synth thread that I visit (especially for new gear) folks are begging to hear demos of said synths. Very often (too often, in my opinion) everyone wants to hear dry demos or A/B comparisons of oscillators, etc, etc. While there is nothing inherently wrong with wanting to hear these things it seems to ignore the fact that this is not how we hear synths in the world nor is it (I don't think) what inspired us to get into music or synths.~
I wanted a Prophet, a Crumar and a Jupiter because of what Nik Rhodes did with them on the Duran albums and every one of those tracks were affected heavily by the effects he and the producers used. The synths were still awesome without effects but the dry sound or a dry demo is not what made me pine for them; it was their sound and use in a real music setting that was the draw for me.

~So, here is what I'm shooting for; I want a thread that puts every awesome synth performance we can find in one thread. I want you to post videos and/or audio performances using synths on this thread. They can be old Duran videos that inspired you, as mentioned above, they can be Firechild videos you find extraodinary (I could be his number one fan or pretty close, so I won't post them) or they can be videos of folks just making great music on synths as I have posted below. You can post performances of crazy solos, synth bands; they can be live or from a studio. Let's get them all if we can.
~"Why now, Knoch?" you may ask Well, recently I've been preparing to purchase a Baloran River. Laurent, the designer, has based the oscillators on the Moog Source synth. In my 30 plus years owning and playing synths I have never once considered purchasing a Source. As I searched for demos I realized why; most of the Source demos, to me, are uninspiring. That is, until I found the one below. I now understand that a synth sounds best when it is making music. I may be nuts and no one may want to post anything (that would make me sad) but I urge you to do this. I love to put these type of compositions on in the background when I work, maybe you might like this, too. Help me out; fill up this thread. p.s. Digital or Analog is fine.

Hi Mr. Knoch,

very like your thread/theme.

Synths are not there to look at, talk about, they are there to play them.
They have meaning only in a musical context.

Keep on going.
But where are videos of the old masters, Keith Emerson, Chick Corea, George Duke, Joe Zawinul, etc.?

Where are new masters? Cory Henry, Snarky Puppy, Nick Semrad?

But I'm not convinced of the example playing a Beethoven Sonata (which I play by myself) with a synth.

Me too! I always have something going in the background. I hope modular is ok too...that's what inspires me the most these days... While impressive on a process level, this is all stuff I love to listen to whether I am watching a video or not.

A Beethoven should be played on a piano (grand), nothing else.

For me sure, one of the best solo:

Cool. Do you know what synths he plays? It doesn't say in the info on the video.

I edited my original post to include this piece since I've put the Elka Synthex video in many other threads and I thought this one was funky. I put it here, too, for those who might not get back up to my original post. Frankly, I'd like to see this group live.

@Behrmoog ~Notice towards the end when she is playing the 1910 piano she has a bust of Beethoven on top. You are not alone!

Then maybe you will also like this old song by his band SBB - it has some very enjoyable Minimoog playing too:
YouTube
Posted as a link, because the video doesn't show him playing it, just some slideshow over the music.
[edit]
Meant to link to 01:07:59 time on that album, now corrected.

No, he's not using an arpeggiator -- he IS the arpeggiator.

I don't know in detail for the posted video but for this one the used instruments are listed:

Eduard Artemyev: Siberiade theme (1979)

(PPK Resurection is based on Siberiade:
YouTube
and long version:
YouTube)

Giorgio Moroder (Midnight Express), Vangelis (Blade Runner), Kitaro, Frank Duval...
and of course Jean-Michel Jarre (original Oxygène, still THE reference for me).

Hi,

it's difficult to find an original video of old master Emerson.

Here is a very good cover of one of the best synth and Hammond solos of Keith.

It's an amazing 1to1 cover of Mihaly Tunkli and Rachel Flowers:

These are great. I look at large modular players like magicians; I can't imagine how they know where everything is going with all those cords, then tweaking on the fly, to boot.

When I listen to this kind of music in the car I always catch myself speeding. He really moves on that solo!
