Your Predictions, Rumors and Desires...?

In the interest of saving the forum from multiple threads, please feel free to post and discuss the smaller NAMM leaks and announcements that may not really justify a whole new thread, before, during and after NAMM closes...

If you do find a new product worthy of a new thread, please, if possible, use a sensible thread title and keep the front page updated. Here is an example:

My guess is Korg will have new Volcas, that will be digital and polyphonic. The first is the Volca M1 this has made way to much sense for a long time, especially with the Roland D50 reissue

The second one will be the Microkorg in Volca format

The third one is the Volca Gadget that takes instruments from the Gadget App, and puts them in a Volca sized box

Keystep Pro seems like a no brainer to me. I know Arturia are a small company but I'm really surprised they haven't put one out already.

NI announces Maschine Studio Mk2 coming Late Spring 2018. Those that just bought the new Maschine mk3 this Fall as it is released feel compelled to upgrade anyway.

Along with the bold parts - though I hope it all comes true - I predict this:

Arturia
  • PolyBrute, based on the MatrixBrute architecture
  • Additional softsynths for the Vintage Collection 6: ARP Chroma and Moog Memorymoog
  • Origin II

Dave Smith
  • A polysynth based somewhat on the Memorymoog, perhaps a SubOSC instead of third oscillator, and multimode/dual filters, plus effects

KORG
  • A polyanalog synth based on the ARP Chroma Polaris, with some of the configurable features of the Chroma and Odyssey
  • PS-3300 VA
  • Kronos replacement - Poseidon - with additional configurable VA synth, building block modules you can build instruments with a la the Origin and Nord Modular, will sound delicious

Moog
  • Voyager sibling, powerful and good ounding
  • They might produce the poly Moog with Moog/Sequential branding, much as Roland did with Studio Electronics and the SE-02

Roland
  • A polysynth based on the Jupiter everyone has been crying for, though it might be a JD-XZ hybrid with a SuperNatural engine bolted in, I'd be all for it

Waldorf
  • Largo VA with a nice control panel to sell alongside the Quantum... or maybe that's 2019...
  • Quantum wows everyone

Yamaha
  • A CS-80 VA with a polypressure keybed, big ribbon and lots of features - hey, if I keep saying it they'll eventually make one, right?
  • A polyphonic physical modeling synth
  • A synth based on FM-X but with some nifty Synclavier-like functions, like the PM synth above

Memo @AuldLangSine, you can tell me, I keep good secretsses.

predictions:

Waldorf Quantum, but i dont expect it will be 100% finished still. hopefully better demos and more features included in this iteration.

Behringer sh101/ms101 proto

Nord Electro 6 . yawn.

malekko and harvestman openly admit they failed in making the last year announced synth/sequencers, and publicly commit sepukku out of shame for yankin our chain all year long. not really they show up high with buncha vegas hookers, explaning where the development money was better spent.

desires, somewhat possible:

arturia keystep pro: one more octave, faster cpu/converter/cv i.e. no slew/lag on pitch change, more cv outs (for assigning modwheel etc), at least four sliders assignable to midi cc via usb or din midi, and/or cv outs.

new DSI hybrid - uses better LP filters from P2, higher cpu and bandwidth. basically a new p12, but id be happy with 8 voices. hopefully true wavetable scanning and more waves included.

impossible dream dream section:

virus ti3 - substantially faster cpu, higher more open bandwidth and higher positioned anti aliasing filter for cleaner tone. user wavetables loading. less poly, but higher quality. comb filtering.

dsi makes a poly with new cem3340 and new 3320 (either from onchip or coolaudio whoever makes it first). its called DSI XA, it has all the basic obxa functions plus polymod fm. dave finally puts two lfos on his polyanalog. gets nobel prize for this.

yamaha fm-x knobby slidery standalone synth , with great fx and addition of formant filters from fs1r. 4 octaves or desktop/tilted rack

moog makes a tabletop only version of minimoog d reissue but with everything patched out for modular use. it can also be racked into 19".

modal 003 - everything that 002 was but with true wavetables and scanning/morphing, fixed moronic pan issue, and gets substantial modulation matrix, with host of mod sources, lfos etc. poly aftertouch. faster snappy envelopes. basically they finally learn to make a synth without inherent problems and fundamental design errors. i did say this is dream dream section.

Personally it wouldn't surprise me (and totally expecting) far deeper integration with between software and a new breed of "smart" controllers. Perhaps even we finally come up with a mapping standard that includes all SW and HW instruments.

A zillion iOS and other mobile offerings that enable anyone to track, mix and produce from anywhere with everything in the cloud regardless of vendor or manufacturer.

More micro synths (analog or VA) but suddenly part of an ecosystem of ergonomic and useful solutions that include modular racks, power supplies and USB integration, more wireless offerings, keyboard and controller mappings and a seamless overlap between sound design of soft/hard synths and related effects.

OK - Maybe not 2018, but that's what's coming.

Can't say that's what I'm rooting for, but what I expect for the future.

Korg - Something that has 8 letters and starts with the letter P. Also new Volcas because why not. Volca Wavetable?
DSI/Sequential - Pro One 2, i.e. a full knob per function VCO monosynth
