the Vermona 4.5 voice

Here is a sample of what happens when you use a
Vermona '14 controlling Vermona perFOURmer
in a pseudo mono and poly mode.
(The 14' is monophonic but the midi controlled perFOURMer
was set to P2 poly mode)

The recording starts out '14 only then I turn on the
volume of the perFOURmer.
Then my Blokeys kicks in, follows by Korgzilla (MS20K+Monotribe+Monotribe+Monotribe)

Finally the Blofeld gets the last word
composed and recorded live to H1 with HOF, Deco.

Rich & gooey, buzzy & rezzy, frizzy & frothy, melodic & raunchy, sweeping & moving, creamy & dreamy, different & familiar... way cool and sonically inspiring... thanks for sharing that.

This time I show the contrast between the Korg sound
(MS-20kit controlling 3 Monotribes via CV and S_trig)
and the Vermona sound (Vermona '14 controlling a perFOURmer in
M1 mono mode via MIDI)
Left hand Korgs, Right Hand Vermonas
Track begins and ends with the Korgs.
So basically two mono synths played together
Korgs 5 oscillators, Vermonas 6 oscillators.
All VCO, all analogue.
3:1 compression in Audacity

At the 1:41 mark I turn up the pot which feeds the VCO1 sine wave
to FM modulate VCO2 on the '14

What sound like a drop out at the end is actually a bug with the
Monotribes where it simply isn't triggered by the MS-20 controller.

Would you say in terms of basic, core sound, vco's and filter - are the 14 and per4mer the same?

The few days I have paired these together for analysis
and experimentation I have to say I would not use the
perFOURmer as a stand-alone performance synth, as the '14
has quite a few bells and whistles, such as the channel pressure
controlled vibrato (a dedicated LFO for pitch) and another LFO
that can be assigned pulsewidth modulation, VCO2 FM, etc.

In other words, I would have no problem playing a '14 direct
into a Roland KC-150 amplifier, without effects, whilst to me,
the perFOURmer is an ancillary synth that can added TO the '14
sound as either an extra four oscillators, OR as 4 note, single
oscillator addition the '14 or another synth.

Granted the perFOURmer is an excellent addition to any ITB, or sequenced
environment, with its 4 synths-in-1 layout.

A couple of caveats I have found, with pitch wheel amount set to 1 octave,
it gives this octave to the local '14 but not to the MIDI controlled perFOURmer!
(Thanks, this reminds me to email these guys)

The EG to oscillator is vastly better on the '14 than the perFOURmer, with a nice slow exponential from zero, rather than a rapid detune on the perFOURmer.

The filters seem to share the same DNA, but I really have to do more science
experiments on this. Both can get quite inharmonic at high resonance,
and as a matter of taste, some people dig this, others do not.

In regards to tone, there is something very creamy on the '14, whilst the
viscosity of the perFOURmer is more like milk.
You can use both on your cereal, but you will enjoy your Weetabix better with the '14!

As time passes, I will give more observations on this synth.
I am planning to do a Youtube demo if its functionality soon.

beautiful gooey and very vintagey tone. with that harmony and melody it sounds at times like clockwork orange on a giant moog. i like your progression here very much.

what can i say, i tend to like vermonas take on analog tone. one of the few standouts in todays "me too" analog arena, that sounds warm and organic instead of thin and strident. among the prospective polyanalogs that may or may not come in the future, behringers, arturias, mfbs, dreadboxes, think id very very much like a hypothetical Vermona polyanalog. four to eight voices, memory and classic setup: 2 vcos, osc sync, 2 env 2 lfo and polymod for filter and vco fm. even if it doesnt have memory, id want it.. as long as theres a single joint set of controls for all voices.

More experiments, this time the Vermona perFOURmer sits out.
Vermona '14 connected to Blofeld via midi, Korgzilla played live on both.

1)Arp/Sequence controlling Blofeld sawtooth, with '14 pressure controlling Blofeld Fc
LFO to pitch, midi clock enabled, Clocked Delay, midi clock enabled.
(To those Blofeld users, does the LFO synch sound off to you?

2)14 ARP and SEQ OFF, midi triggered Arpegiated Drums on Blofeld

In both cases, just noodling about!

I was playing around for half an hour and I had accidentally turned off VCO1 for that bit, and I was thinking to myself how much I dug the tone, and noticed my mistake. So, if it holds it own even with one VCO1, it must be some sort of secret sauce these guys put into their synths that is gooey and creamy.

As an owner of less than a week, this is a never sell synth, as all the reviews were true about the '14 and I was glad that I purchased one!

Starts up Blofeld (Wavetable, no filter, stereo)
Add in composite Vermona 14 + PerFOURmer (which I call the 1404)
Also Korgzilla composite (MS-20xx plus 3 Monotribes)

Composed, played, and recorded live to H1 recorder.
Totally dry, no EQ on 1202VLZ4
3:1 compression in Audacity

The '14 as arpegiator, controlling a 4' 8' 16' 32' sawtooths on the perFOURmer.
The grindy crunchy sound is the MS-20xx +3 tribes
And there is a cameo by the Blofeld.

composed and recorded wet to an H1
3:1 compression in Audacity
HOF Reverb and Strymon Deco

Great news...The Vermona 14 outputs the ARP/SEQ through both MIDI OUT and CV/Gate!
So, any sequence could be routed to a modular (don't have) or a V/octave module
(Well, I have the Monotribes to play with)....
.................................................
So, this piece is Waldorf Blofeld keyboard acting as playable
keybed #1 , midi out to Vermona 14' in Arp mode, perFOURmer hooked up via midi thru, but arp is not transmitted this way.

However, the arp is transmitted via CV, but as I did not feel like
re-configuring a monotribe to a non HZ/V format, rather I sent the CV to the HPF on the MS-20xx which had its filter modulated live.

the MS-20xx formed playable keybed #2 and controlled three
Monotribes via Hz/V and S_trig (and as above had its filter
"sequenced" via the arp from the '14)

Recorded and composed live, wet to H1
no compression in Audacity

equipment used
1 MS-20kit keybed (mono)
3 Monotribes (mono)
1 Blofeld keybed (poly, patch FORMANT IX)
1 Vermona keybed (mono. in arp mode, up down 3 octave)
1 Vermona perFOURmer (poly P2 Mode)

effects HOF Reverb and Strymon Deco, no EQ on board.

This time the CV/Gate (V/Octave) is put to work on the 14.
As it transmits the sequencer or ARP data via cv, I hooked it up
to a Montribe set to triangle wave and various footages.

Starts off Monotribe, add in PerFOURmer in P2 mode, then '14.
These 3 synths all sport VCOs, but some are ADSR deficient, such as the Monotribe.

Ingredients:
Monotribe, Vermona 14, Vermona perFOURmer
Recorded wet to H1 with HOF and Deco.
3:1 compression in Audacity

Nonetheless, stranger things have happened!

then the '14 joins in.
Two version of same performance

Meanwhile, this is what you get when you combine an SH-02 inspired arpegiator with a quantized (broken) clocked LFO controlling the noise on the Blofeld (this starts out the demo) Then followed by deliberately making the pitch unstable through 1/4" patch cords on the MS-20 and friends (two Monotribes) then about 45 seconds in the '14 comes in (and IMO, it really cuts
through the mix)

Gear used in order of appearance:
Blofeld keys
Korgzilla III (MS-20kit and 2 sub oscillator Monotribes)
Vermona '14

-sitting out
Vermona PerFOURmer
-the other 2 Monotribes that act as a sub oscillator for the '14

composed and recorded live, starts out dry but
Deco and HOF added. 3:1 compression in Audacity
