Korg ARP 2600?

Now that we have seen a few faithful recreations from the past how likely do you think it is it to see a new ARP 2600 from Korg?

What improvements would you like to see? (if any)

What would be the reasons for you to buy one?

Discuss.

I would like to see memory. Something that didn't happen with the Odyssey...Not sure if it's possible tho :P

Memory implies digital control, storage blah, blah...While it's mostly welcomed, I am sure it would create all sort of issues and it would add a lot to what would be a very expensive synth already. If Korg was to make this a reality I think we would be looking at 5K-6K prices or thereabouts.

From an ARP 2600 recreation, I would omit the internal speakers and, in the space they occupy, I would add some extra goodies, like multiplies, CV mixer LFOs or an envelope.. stuff like that.

Basically impossible on a semi-modular synth.

Probably be more likely for Behringer at this point.

As for features. Make a 2600, smaller ok. Just make it a module like the Nosel D, with basic midi facility and Poly chain.

I don't care about memories or USB or wifi or aftertouch or velocity.
Just a Korg ARP2600 mini 86 % of the original size for $999 with just MIDI in will do nicely.

They have the sliders of the Korg Odyssey and the patch sockets of the MS20 mini, so a Korg 2600 mini must be doable.

That is a fair comment. So, how good is the MatrixBrute to get similar tone and joy from it as a 2600 would give us?

MatrixBrute? Even the MatrixBrute can't save what cables you plug in and out.

Now that Tats has left Korg, I doubt that we'll see the 2600. I would truly love to see it happen, though.

That's why modular synths suck. The infinite masturbation with cables :( A phone or camera is your patch memory.

I think if we do see a reissue, it would come from Korg.
Having already replicated the Odyssey it would make the best sense for them to use the technology, parts and experience to expand the Odyssey product line into the larger ARP 2600.
However, I think the 2600 has less appeal for most musicians than the Odyssey has because of the perceived complicated programming.

I hope the reason we haven't seen a Karp 2600 yet is because they're working hard to make sure it sounds right

Korg should venture in Eurorack and release everything as modules.

Pros:
- at least someone is building them and they won't be pure unobtainium or some single person manufacturing these and the webshop only works on Thursdays with a full moon and nothing is ever in stock longer than 4 hours or it's DIY
- you can purchase it bit by bit so you can pay in a monthly plan
- more patchpoints

Cons:
- no normalling/prepatching
- no lit sliders but eh

True, but unto it's self, it's basically a modular with presets. I think a company who made something that was basically an "ARP 3000" that nailed the basic osc and filters, but gave you the modularity of it via a modulation matrix, would have a hit on their hands. I think that would appeal to more people than a 1:1 emulation of the 2600.

While learning to solder can be a good way to open up your hardware options, IMHO the TTSH or other 2600 clones is not a first timer type of DIY project, ymmv. One of the best examples of DIY but its a big job.

(While I know electronics well I am too busy and am having mine done by an experienced builder, after I bought the kit and rare parts myself).

Plus just the parts and a case is going to put it at close to $1K ... more than most monos on the current market.

Not sure I agree with this though ironically I rarely use presets.

The Voyager with the expanders is pretty much a semi modular and when I do use presets on that synth, its still a good recall state to start with the patch cables. Having a knob per function on that synth also quickly gets you out of preset mode ... kind of works for me somehow.
