Just finished some reorganizing , not to much

Made a wooden stand for the mix deck with a side table for drinks , etcetera .

Spray painted dark wood with room for effects under mis-deck

Some boards for extra gear

Extra speakers

Synth corner where Arp moved from organ to the side and controller moved on organ .

One of the most interesting studios I've seen here for a while. Def not the same boring crap you often see here from people who have money but no taste. Part of that is the tease of not being able to tell what much of the gear is, while still knowing it's different from most of the stuff around here. I likeee very much

in comparison, when i go to tidy studios like from fashion/arhitecture magazines, i get totally uninspired. likewise engineers there often suffer from creative constipation.

i also strive to cozy approach: if im going to write something psyhedelic or spacey, i wanna feel like im driving an intergalactic cruiser with lot of machines and controls within arms reach.

Does anyone here ever check out the studios ("studios") on Instagram? I don't spend much time on that site, but I follow a few studio accounts. They're THE WORST. Super sanitized, very museum-like. The least musically inspiring spaces I can imagine...

Many people love to make very tidy studios as almost a meditation spot but as for being inspiring to create, I have never found that to be the case. To each their own and there's nothing wrong with putting together ultra clean studios but not make music.

The working studios I have seen are pretty messy places because the focus is so much on the music. There's nothing wrong with this common model either and people tend to gravitate towards one or the other. Both give different types of people joy. That's kind of the point.

I really like to see things very organized myself, with everything having its place, wiring organized, etc. Some people have crap haphazardly stacked everywhere - that is too visually "noisy" for my brain, but to each their own. I'm about to become a victim of this myself because I am out of room and things are going to start getting piled up. I have synths in various closets around the house, and have thought of building a custom out-building (with a restroom) specifically for my obsessive "hobby".

This. If you ignore the 2ft high dust my room would be described as clinicly neat. There is hardly a cable in sight, eveything has a permanent home, everything is connected and routed so it's ready to go immediately, etc.

Some studio's that I've seen appear to be simply a cluttered, disorganised mess and I'd never get anything done in there other than constantly wiring things. Each to their own obviously.

Remember, the difference between a collector and hoarder is organisation.

I think there are animals living amongst my gear, I should really tidy it all up, but I don't want to disturb any nests or dens, there was a low growling the other day, spent 20 minutes in ProQ3 trying to notch it out, it eventually went when I threw some food into the gear pile, not sure what kind of beast it is, but it's growing.

Oh I agree -- I need neatness and order, too. Can't do the messy and cables everywhere thing. It's just that, some of those pics on Instagram (white monitors, white computer, white keyboard, white desk, everything gleaming, etc.) just look more like social media showpieces than studios for making music.

But I definitely agree with "to each their own." It's just not for me.

More of an “update” than anything else. Hope they’re of interest to people

So, what’s updated?
Well, the latest addition is a 55” 4K uhd screen. (daughter took my old 42” back to Uni). It’s lovely and vivid BUT I just don’t have 4K eyesight

Aside from that, I’m trying the uhe Diva demo (and it’s going to be bought as I love it).
The OB12 is new and interesting. Need to really get to grips with it as I’ve just not heard anything significant out of it yet (anybody got any demos?)
I’ve just bought Cubase Pro 10.5 too (already got LPX, Ableton and ProTools: I do both my own stuff and and some commercial work).
The DeepMind12D is great. Totally love it.

Other things you can’t really see- Yamaha KX88 controller, Kong Wavestation AD, TC Electronic VoiceLive 2, Akai s3000xl, oh and a MacBook Pro.

Also playing with my Yamaha Tenorion. My friend built be a bespoke holder for when I use it live.

In case you don't already know: you can keep the 4k quality but zoom in a bit by selecting a Scaled resolution in OSX > System Preferences > Displays.

I've gotta' know ! What song is the framed waveform ?
Old 4 weeks ago | Show parent

It's a song I wrote that my daughters had converted - very precious to me as it was unexpected

There's another picture of set of headphones - the collage is made up of the quotes from reviews of my music.

I'm quite an introvert and despite not doing too bad for myself, I lack a lot of confidence in what I do. My kids (well, they're bordering on adults now), know just what to do to quash my self-doubt and confidence-issues
