Which is why it has been standing there for over a year.

CS-30 is covered completely because it has extremely strong formaldehyde / phenol smell. And i just don't want to sleep with that in my room. It would give you headache. So i had to cover it. However there is no moisture in my room and the humidity is kinda low, 30% in winter, 50% in summer. In fact i just placed a glass of water over the radiator to increase humidity, but its still around 30% which is definitely not good.

+1

The most critical are upper parts. Over there i used every hole that exist on vertical. I used 22 screws per wing. Kinda overkill, but just in case!
Oh, I see. While it's good that one of the synths is not fully wrapped, it's still dicey not having the dessicant packs even with the low room humidity.

Now ya got me puzzled, why the formaldehyde / phenol smell?

This may help:

That formaldehyde sounds like really bad stuff:(

Sounds like its comes from pressed wood? I know some of my old classics had many pressed wood parts:(

So Don needs to:

A: Move the synths to freezer/ cold room (would stop them from catching on fire too,lol

B. Create a jungle in the synth room.

That only really matters if the temperature/humidity fluctuates and will be different between the inside of the plastic and the outside, or if you are in an excessively humid area.

The CS-30 wouldn't still be off-gassing from the original chipboard. That stuff goes away after a relatively short period of time.

Maybe someone painted it or used some sort of glue on it?

Much is made of that smell. It's bad for you really only in that it can give you a headache if you're sensitive to smells (like I am). Your body produces more formaldehyde naturally, and you eat as much in a pear.

Edit: Side note. I've noticed a lot of plastic wrap from china has a super strong smell like that. Might it be packing material of some sort?

I believe phenol was used in making process of PCB boards, that bakelite type of material. It is probably used nowadays as well i will assume it is that "smell" of "electronics" when you open a device. In fact most of the boards have that smell, if you place your nose close enough. :o)

I had another device that had such strong smell. It was a Soundcraft Spirit Studio mixer which had really really strong smell and which i removed back cover and left for 1 year on the terrace to vent off. I did full refurb project during that time (it wasn't just standing there). Last week finally i've brought it in my room to complete the restoration project and noticed the smell is now minimal. I suspect small dust particles filled up the microscopic holes that were venting off.

Any info on it would be much appreciated. PM also welcome if you think it doesnt fit into this thread.
NR Synth makes their synths by hand ; thus, it took 4 months to build and test mine ( I just payed an account of 1k and the rest when finished - 2750EUR + freight ).

I've chosen 3 arp 2600 oscs, 1 arp 2600 filter and 1 ems diode filter, modern envelopes, 1 analog & 1 digital lfo, chorus & disto effect ;

For me, the ems filter is really impressive at low cut frequency: full loud sounds and great resonance;
Having 2 different filters is like having 2 different synth at once !
The envelopes and midi routing are very fast, so it works great with a sequencer;
as a real analog, it takes time to tune - particularly the master tune, but once done, no problem ;
I had an Analogue Solutions Vostok for the same price : lame envelopes and poor midi conversion, unstable tune, but great ms filter; The Alligator is better build with real buttons & pots;

You can write to Yann & Stephen at NR Synth for further explanations;

If I did that, it would get stolen or a family of critters would move in

Years ago I found a rat living in one of my monitors:( I took it apart to clean it, luckily no damage, but it had dragged some socks in there to sleep on. I had been blaming my better half for the missing socks.

Mooer Reecho Pro
Machinedrum II UW
Dark Energy 2
Haken Continuum Fingerboard
Livid DS-1
Nord Lead 4
iPad 2
Zoom RFX-1000
Digitech Studio Quad 4

Some other stuff like guitar pedals and stuff, not using for the moment.

Can you provide some more details on this shelving? It doesn't quite look like the dual slot stuff I have from Home Depot. Where did you get it? Is there a name brand? Are those 16" arms, or some other size?

I moved house about 1.5 years ago, and sadly my studio has been more or less in limbo since. But I've finally started getting my current room "organised." This is my new place. . . .

(I have to admit, a couple of the nice boards here are a friend's, but still a nice photo!! )

Thanks dudes.

I must confess I have gone through at least 20 purchases over the last year to get to this setup. Space has been limited to the desk that you see here, and finding a small selection of gear that speaks to you is surprisingly hard!

The KH120's really are good. I had a pair of BM5A's before that which I think I prefer in terms of the way they sound, but I needed something a bit smaller in a really crappy untreated space and the Neumanns are spectacular given their size.

Very cool setup. I note on your Soundcloud page that a Microbrute is featured in several pictures but not in the picture you posted. May I ask why?

The Microbrute and Minibrute have always interested me and I would be interested to find out why you have dropped this unit from your current setup.

Thank you

Sure thing

It's really down to the very limited space I have/vs my needs.

The microbrute impressed me a lot (I've only tried the Minibrute at a friends house, but sonically they are very similar). If I had just a teensy bit more space I would probably get another one for another live voice in the setup. I kinda wish they did a desktop version without the keyboard as that would make more sense for a lot of people, although the keys aren't that big on the microbrute really.

The microbrute does a lot of things very well, so if you're considering one I would nudge you wholeheartedly in the 'yes' direction.

That is an Alpes Machines Matrix Ctrlr, a dedicated editor/librarian/arpeggiator for Oberheim Matrix 6/6r/1000s. It's pretty great.

Just curious, did anyone else cover the gear list and stare at the picture guessing what everything is and checking to see if they were right?

That Alpes stumped me.

The Matrix Ctrlr is a pretty new piece, and I don't think there are many of them around yet (especially since it came in the form of a kit) but Julien, the designer, is very responsive and it's a really fun bit of kit. Definitely makes the M6 a *lot* more accessible.

My humble setup and even humbler studio buddy - he's no use whatsoever:

IMac; Ableton Push 1; NI Maschine; Presonus Faderport; KRK VXT6; iPad running iPolysix; SM Pro Nano Patch +; Whiteboard for writing down patches I need to remember:

Roland JU-06, JP-08, JX-03; DSI Prophet 6; Volca Beats, Bass, Keys; Strymon Dig, Bluesky; Zoom MS-70CDR; Saffire Pro 40, ADA8200 and patchy (3 more rack slots for some future purchases); Sennheiser HD600 for late night sessions (usually on hook to the side along with various closed back headphones); Various MIDI interfaces out of sight:

Moog Sub37; Novation Bass Station II; Technics 1200 with Schitt phono preamp (Pioneer mixer packed away); Sonos amp so I can play my records through to the living room; Baskets on the bottom containing various percussion and cables:

Listening corner, framed copy of my first release, unused second 1200 and Rokit 5's along with a couple of mics (AT-2020 and SM-57) I rarely use:
