LDC or SDC for overheads, pls advise

It depends on your room, cymbals, etc and the sound YOU like. Long time pro studio standards include: LDC = AKG 414s, etc etc etc SDC = Neuman KM84, Shure SM-81, etc etc etc Dynamic = EV RE-55 So really, it all depends - there's no "one" mic for overheads.

Holy craaap, Abbey Road microphone list!

Glad to see they have some Electro-Voice mics. Glad also to note I have as many RE55's ! A wonderful dynamic mic - flat from 40Hz to 20,000Hz - an 'Industry Standard' But they only have one Calrec - as do I. Who needs more than one? Gulex

Product Description

The Electro-Voice RE55 is an omnidirectional dynamic microphone designed for the most demanding professional applications. Ideal for boom or stand mounting in recording and broadcast use, it is excellent also for close-up hand-held use in stage and interview situations. Smooth, wide-range response, high output level, and low sensitivity to mechanical shock, combined with functional easy to hold styling, make the RE55 one of the most versatile professional microphones ever created. The non-reflecting matte satin nickel finish eliminates hot spots for on-camera use. This microphone features the exclusive, non-metallic Electro-Voice Acoustalloy┬« diaphragm that assures smooth frequency response, and is impervious to damage from extremes of temperature and humidity. Applications The RE55, an omnidirectional microphone, is outstanding in those situations where uniform sensitivity in all directions is desirable. Frequency response, flat and uniform across the entire usable range, makes the RE55 a good choice for symphonic and other wide-range recording situations where reverberation is not a problem. Applications include calibration for use as a secondary standard for acoustic measurements. Its small diameter (┬ż-inch shank) makes the RE55 comfortable and convenient for hand-held use by vocalists for stage and television work and for news reporters conducting interviews.
