Question Live Drum Triggering MIDI sample with Tap Tempo

First off, this is my first post, i've heard of this site many times but i've finally decided to mozy my way onto the forums.

Ok, i'm a drummer for a 3-piece pop/indie band, and my band members are very against getting a 4th member, but i'm very attached to the synth lines for certain parts in our songs that we have on our recorded versions. My goal here is to trigger a pre-programmed MIDI synth line to play in particular parts of the song, but like any live band, tempo can fluctuate, so i want to be able to have the midi line play to the tempo of whatever i'm playing.

So after looking mainly at the Roland SPD-S and various reviews and mainly reading this thread:
SPD-S loop & tempo [Archive] - vdrums.com forum
It looks like it may be possible.

My questions:

1) Has anyone had a similar idea in mind, and how did you go about doing it?
2) What equipment would i use to trigger the synth line?
3) Is there a cheaper alternative?

I am also working this problem. I saw an earlier answer to a Associated thread or this thread and somebody said it was just impossible and then they were just talking about the past the past the past I once had a rep and engineer at Harman music group told me something was impossible so I went ahead and invented it and I still use it. So don't listen to these small-minded people tell you it's impossible because nothing is impossible put your mind to it research it figure it out if I do I will help so if I figure it out I will definitely post my answers to this thread

Don't think it's around anymore but Curcular Logic had an awesome program for this:

...not sure if it was available 10 years ago though.

You could try this:

or this:

this also:

...or if you are using Ableton for sequencing, I think you can map a controller to the Tap Tempo feature.
