70's - 80's Maple Ludwig 4 pc. Rock Set

I found a maple 4 piece - 14" mounted, 16" & 18" floors with a 24" kick. The 14, 16, & 24 are blue/olive badge and the 18" is a keystone. They are asking $899. Is this a good deal?

Not a steal or anything but sounds good to me. Have run on it, if it feels good, it'll worth whatever they ask thumbsup

My ex-partner (and blood-brother since we were 15) got a set in '74-75 and 'dem wuz some bad boys. Set-up right, with a heavy handed drummer you can't touch 'em for rock, they explode! YMMV

That's the kit i normally gig with. I dig the 6ply luddys. I think there's some pics of mine in those exact sizes on our page.

No. It is high.

Of course, it'd be nice to find a kit cheaper, I don't think this is too high for these sizes. 24" kick with both floor toms and the very much preferred 14" rack tom? That's THE kit for rock. Typically a good deal on a standard 4 pc kit would be in the $500 range. Of course, you're going to never use the 12" tom and only go with the 13". Then you've got to track down a matching 18" floor tom and you'd also like to find the 14" rack tom to go with it. Oh, I forgot....so, say the kit is the larger, big beat with the 13/14" rack toms and 18ft with 24 kick. It's not too easy to find these for $500 anymore. Say you do...you're saying that you can easily track down a 16" floor tom for $300 maybe? So, you saved $100.

Again, it depends on what size drums you prefer....for me, this is my sized kit. I'd jump on that price if it were in my town.

Yea, it needs a home and some TLC. Next week I'm going to head on down there with a trade in hand for a deposit. It should be home before Christmas. They wanted $999 for it but that was with an acrolite snare that I already have so he knocked off $100. I think they are asking a fair price. I think its a good investment. Just browsing Ebay, I figure I could easily part it out for more. My GF was even interested in it. I better pounce on it.
