All of that wasted space behind him... He could easily fit 2 or 3 TrapKats back there so he doesn't limit his sonic options so much.

I played a gig once and we opened for the Fabulous Gin Sisters. She set up the house drums something like this, and I had to play on them too. Luckily, I only used BD, SD and cymbals with that particular band.

It was nutty, everything was like 17 miles away from everything else.
