Turn a clear kick-head into coated but other way around not possible?

Hi everyone,

Decided I will buy a Powerstroke 3 for my kick batter head.
The question now is: clear or coated?
I play singer/songwriter/pop/rock
I have a rockstar TAMA with coated ambassadors on it.
I will only be recording with this kit. I need to be flexible in the dampening for each song.

Clear or coated? What's the difference?

I read somewhere you can turn a clear head into a coated head by using dampening (because the coating is just dampening overtones). If this were true a clear head would be more versatile as you can dampen it but you can't get more highs in a coated head by 'undampening' it, right?

Love to hear from you. Thanks in advance.

I always chose te clear version of the Powerstroke 3. Sounds enough muffled to me so I never felt the need for a coated version.

Clear will be a tad brighter than the warmer coated. If you want attack/cut (in heavier genres), I'd go clear. For more subdued tone, with less beater, coated. You probably want coated.
