La3a 500

New toys..... Finally had my LA3A 500's built... Long project but its nice to see them finally finished. Did some custom work to capture the original look. Sounds exactly like what i remember of the originals at first listen. Peter did an amazing design. It uses the same input transformer as the current reissues and replica output transformer and autoformer from Ed Anderson. Anyone else with a pair would love to hear your insight. Will post samples as soon as i get a chance.

Back in 2010 Peter Lazaro did a run of like 20 kits. He took the LA-3A circuit and miniaturized it to fit in the 500 series. The unit uses a mini T4B opto cell as well as original miniaturized op amps, and transformers (mentioned above). We had to source parts everywhere to get everything but Transformers are from hairball audio and Cinemag and then a lot of the other stuff came from Digikey and Mouser and a handful of other places. Faceplate and L-Bracket where custom metal work i got done and then did the designs for the faceplate myself and had it silk screened and painted. After that i had them built by a tech. Heres what Peters originals looked like.

For my pair I hacked original T4Bs and made them fit in the new enclosure. These comps a great.

I didn't think it would be possible to miniaturize an LA3a and put it in a 500 series, but I can't argue with the visual evidence.

Wow. Are the kits still available or a kit+parts list? And how much, if you don't mind me asking?

Kits arn't currently up for sale but talk to peter LAZ pro audio and see if he has any left. Also if enough people are interested my guess is he'd do another run.

Just got a response back from Peter!

I would need confirmed orders of 25 minimum for a group order.

I definitely want at least two. Is there any other interest?

The kit is the pcb set, 500 series metalwork and vu meter. A few sundry screws and nuts too, but everything else is down to you.
Around £150 GBP.
Now we need about 20 more!

Thanks for the lesson. Maybe I should have asked how much for each.

Anyone? I have emailed Peter too and I will wait for a response. This is the comp to save for.

Thanks!

Around £150 GBP per unit, which is the pcb set, 500 series metalwork and VU meter.

150 British Pound Sterling equals
227.22 US Dollar

Hope that's right.
