In my 169 with built-in PSU it looks quite different, though I'm no expert.

Calibration of Studer was easy ... only problem was calibration of limiter

1. calibrate DC - DC converter

2. Calibration of Input modules was very easy to set 10db on fader amp..(with multiturn trimpots its very easy heh )

3. calibration of outputs x4 ..2 for stereo out, 2 for sends... THD calibration, easy by the book

4. CALIBRATION OF LIMITER WAS PAIN!!!!!

5.calibration of talkback module and monitor module went great BY THE BOOK!!

6. still have to calibrate meter bridge!!!

--------------------------

ok lets get back to limiter calibration.... problem of calibration was to get identical levels in master modules..

HERE IS WHAT WAS A PROBLEM .... there are few zener diodes 7,5v and few 1N4448 diodes..
CHANGE THEM ALL and then do calibration of limiters!!!!

they were leaking and voltages were not correct .. old diodes out , new in!!!!!!
hope that will help few of you guys who do calibration of your studer 169 consoles!!!!

be careful, the marking are on the mechanical aluminium part ... conductive track can be changed

and i'm not sure about this marking, RExxx = REsistance + code value or is that just a testing Operator validation ???

i say this becaus i have lot off this marking on my 289, RExxx RSxxx, and not only on the fader but in all PCB aroud the desk heh

maybe a studer tech can say more ... anyone aroud ?

i think RS and RE are original studer mark for their parts only

since that parts are manufactured by studer...

i measured 14 faders and got this info i wrote
example: on studer 169 only parts marked with that stamps are ....

PCB, Metal Frame and Fader!!! parts that studer produced!!!!!!

if anybody have time and open console .... take a minute and measure faders!!! ... I think I got it right

I have some 089 parts and all parts manufacturder by studer have that stamp too....

yeah i contacted studer dealer and tech !!!!!

yes and they told me that part number for all faders in 169 is same

so that is reason why i started to investigate marks on faders!!!

and i know im doing that right!

i just take 20 min for testing some module ... 5 quad mono, 2 quad master

______________________________________________
3 quad mono 1.169.241:

RE728-->2K7
RE724-->2K8
RE728-->2K8
______________________________________________
2 quad mono 1.169.241.81 (spare part i got after the board, .81 last rev modul):

RE850-->3K5
RE948-->3K2
______________________________________________
1 master 1.169.341(originaly in the desk i think)

RE742-->5K
______________________________________________
1 master 1.169.340 (but with the .341 xlr setup ??? not originaly in the desk i think ...)

RE628-->5K

hope all this can help you ... but i'm not so sure

my thinking is that this number are a manufacturing proces periode or thomething like that
but nothing are linked with the fader resistance value

the only link, maybe, is there in a certain period they use one specific value fader...

exempl: 728 can mean (197)7 28week an maybe in 77 only 2K5 fader are used ...

my console whase built in 1977 quatro version SN 514 and all the tag in mechanical part inside (including the fader) start by 7 .....

yeah man but all faders ALL of them share same part number 1.169.550.00 in service manual
so i believe studer have marked them for their internal needs for faster assembly and service!!!!

ANYWAY THANX FOR INFO

we gonna make some logic at the end.. if not there is allways a good beer!!!

next time you better buy the 169 NOS fader from my friend for 100 euro more then a used ebay fader.. all the sound is going trough the 169er faders.. it's not VCA or something heh

if someone needs parts for the 169, contact me via pm.

oh and btw.. most of the background-info provided by Damir aka Roginator is given by Andreas Kuhn from www.analog-audio.ch

I like the thread so far.. good luck with everything.

first of all this is not all true at all.... if fader is 100 euro I would buy it but for 415 CHF+ shipping (that price was given to me by Mr Andreas).. thanx no way!!!!

for that amount i bought few days ago complete master section and have spare one with fader i need!!!!!!

another thing Mr Andreas didnot gave me any info beside PRICE and part number !!! 1.169.550.00 ( I heard about this man cca 10 days ago and 99% of all info about STUDER came from my research of studer consoles 169, 069 and 089)

and that is still confusing since all faders with that part number in different modules have different values!!!!

so easily i can buy that part nr with getting wrong value!!!!

anyway BIG thanx help mr Necola...

Youre welcome. You should mention that the parts from Andreas are NOS!
And also that he lives from doing that. I think it was like 10 long emails going to you and back. For free. All the help for free

think about it.

Cheers

WOW !!!

You did a great job on the 169 !!!

I am just restoring a Studer 369,
very nice console, but restoring 24 channels + the rest of this machine is some work heh
i planed to do always 2-3 hours a day, probably i'am finished in a few month.

As well i could get my hands on a used Studer 904 32 channel console...
I am not sure if this could be a keeper or a sell ( quite big )
Any experience with the big 900 series ?

So many capacitors

Hi.
I tried to buy caps to re-cap my 269, but, I found that it's not easy to decide which caps to buy.(I'm not a pro-technicians, but a hobbiest).
I went to
http://digikey.com
and selected,
Panasonic>Capacitor>FC series>100uf/25v> etc
but, I still have to select +-5% +-10% etc,(what do I have to do?)
and then which kind of ohm, degree, packages, size, height...etc... too many things to select.

I'm wondering, can you recommend any good website to buy these panasonic capacitors that are good for Studer 269 "easily"?

Thanks.

update

I recently did some work on this and set it up, even not recaped and serviced it does sound fantastic !

actually everything works pretty good and smooth, some pots do a little crackle but this is disappearing by time.
the correlation of the master channels and 8 groups is not precise, this seems to be a lot of works, changing and setting all the internal trimmers to the right adjustment as well all the VU backlights are dead, except one.

anyway, i wanna invest a lot time bringing it back to former glory.
the good news is that i organized a second 369 in working but very dusty condition, just for parts.
it takes a bit space in my flat , but whatever ...

i will not sell it, it is way too cool to work with

MAN plz don't dismantle a second 369 for spare !!!
find some spare module or a 169 for this, it's relatively easy to find,
electronic are 95% standard component, easy fix!
Restore the second one too, or sell it to ppl who can take care of it

i don't know who you are but catching two 369, it's ...

Smile Bingo

I have re-capped some modules and they are re-born!. This is very exciting. I have re-capped one dead Master channel, and it makes sounds, and that's beautifully. Only by re-capping can make this happen.
ANd I also re-capped 2 dead monitor unit, and they work again. Thank you guys for this great thread and informations.
I will re-cap other modules when I have time.

BTW, I have come to have a few questions.

1. Some switches make big popping noises when it is switched. For example limiter on/off switch. I'm wodering why is that? If I replace this with good one, can I solve this problem? Or is this issue is related with other part? I have some master modules, and there are some modules especially this sympton.

2. Some master modules fader volume is too loud even though the fader is in the low position, and even though I put it upward gragually, there's no big difference in volume. Is this because of the wrong fader or other wrong parts?

3. After I re-cap monitor module, I could see all VU meter's reaction stable when I turn the power on/off. But one thing is that the small VU meter above on the right channel master VU, it reacts strange. When I turn it on, it goes to the far right, and then go down to the left side, but, it comes back too slowly. The left channel comes back in 2-3 seconds, but this one comes back in 10-20 seconds.
I have used 220uF/25v, and 100uF/25v on monitor module like roginator did. But origial value seems to be 200uF/6v...etc. I'm wondering this is the cause or is there other reason for this?
I have tested with other re-capped monitor module and it was same, and I also have tested with other VU meter brides, and it was same. So I think it's definitely because of the module.

Thank you in advance. I think I might have more questions soon..
