Diy monitor controller distortion

Just built a passive monitor controller based on the Pro Harmonic plans. It's passing signal correctly but I'm getting pretty heavy distortion playing back at normal levels in pro tools. Its sounding like it's originating in the controller since when turning the pot low there is still distortion. If I turn down the output of my antelope orion it the distortion goes away. I'd like to try to run the orion all the way up since I'm worried about bit rate loss If I turn it down on its control panel.

I have the 10k alps pot w 4.7k resistors exactly how it is in the Pro Harmonic plans. http://www.proharmonic.com/articles/AT78_OTB.pdf

Would it help to put higher value resistors in place of the 4.7k? If so what would be a logical value to use?

Or do I need to pad down the input going into the controller?

Thanks!

Did you ground everything correctly? All the grounds connected together into one "bundle" ?
