Because it’s not rap.

Simple: people got old.

Younger people wanted something else.

Always the case.

By definition all genres have their tropes and standards (it's what makes it a genre!) - but some have wider parameters and variations and fewer 'rules'.

For me, trance suffers from having the most rigid set of rules and lack of variation and imagination - but this is just my opinion from the outside looking in as I don't really like it.

You could say the same for Tech House: What started out as a new and exciting style has ended up eating itself and become very formulaic - what would have been described as good Tech House a few years ago (i.e. it doesn't sound like stuff in the current Beatport Tech House chart) is no longer considered Tech House.

What gear is used to make a track is only important to Gearslutz :-)

99.9% of the people who just listen/dance to and consume the music couldn't give 2 flying f**** whether it was hardware, software, samples, DAW or sequencers, analog or digital, MP3 or WAV.

They will probably only have an opinion on 1 thing - is it good or bad?

Happy hardcore, from back in the day, firing on all cylinders owns each of the genres you mentioned.

Carl Cox is on the record as saying that no-one loves their music as much as happy hardcore afficionados.

It's a lot easier to make certain music with certain gear though. That's the whole point.

Absolutely. I mean it's happy hardcore, it's impossible to have a neutral opinion about it.
