Technique Request

Absolutely desperate to figure out this technique or how this effect can be achieved.

In this Marie Davidson remix John Talabot uses this technique on a synth sequence where the filter is modulated randomly each step of the sequence.

You can hear it at 3:42

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Xvb...youtu.be&t=216

and 6:41

Any help at all is appreciated! Thanks

The easiest way is to grab Filter Cutoff and/or Resonance knob and rotate it in real time.

If you want it automated, you can do that with DAW plugins drawing automation curve on the same parameters.

on the videos, I think there is more going on that arpeggio than just Cutoff and resonance, the delay return amount is also changing, and I believe I do hear kind of tremolo effect periodically as well. That all tweaking makes this part interesting and fluid.

Yeah, I'm sure there's an LFO being used somehow. How do you see a S&H being used for this?

Just applying a sample & hold LFO to filter cutoff will give you this kind of bubbly effect. Eg. https://www.instagram.com/p/B6--_ZwHt4v/

For the modulated bubbly filter moves.

I sometimes use (a lot of) velocity on the filter to get this effect. Then i just play shoddy.
