I am looking for synths defining the rave / techno scene.
Examples of synths in songs that I really like are 2 Unlimited , Technotronics, Prodigy and whatever they are using on here. I like great synth leads as well as the softer and feel good sounds.
Answer: anything available cheaply at pawn shops.
If it was around then, it was used. 80s synths and fx were particularly cheap during the 90s.
Also helps if everything is printed to ADAT first.
Not wanting an argument but isn’t this a bit of a myth . I’d been interested in this but all my reading got me to the conclusion that DAT didn’t add to the overall sound . Key ingredient was source, fx from the era and mixing desks as available at the time . I.e midiverbs and cheap Mackie mixers .
Used to use DAT loads for storing masters and portable DATs for field recordings/sampling. There’s nothing about the sound that’s particularly characteristic unless you have a unit with crappier AD/DA. Plenty of better ways to sound more ‘90s.
