Material for DIY mixer rack ears?

Has anyone made mixer rack ears? I just got a new mixer, and, funds being what they are, I'd like to avoid spending 60 bucks on what is essentially, 10 dollars worth of metal. The problem I'm running into is most of the angle iron or aluminum around here that would be the proper width is too thick.

If you have access to a bending brake, you could use ordinary sheet metal of an appropriate gauge. If you don't have access to a bending brake, you could perhaps improvise to put a bend in the sheet metal; a vice and a hammer and some patience can do a passable job, or even just a hand seamer in some cases.
