Insert cable ground lift

Hello all,

I have been searching online for a while now and I haven't come across one clear answer yet.

I have a ground loop in my studio so I am currently making new cables. All the grounds are connected at the mixer side only and disconnected at the gear side. Which works fine for synth's and other line inputs.

Now I need to make some insert cables which are unbalanced at the mixer side but balanced at the equipment side. I also need to lift the ground.

I came across this scheme from SOS:
https://www.soundonsound.com/sound-a...-or-unbalanced

The problem is that when I connect pin 3 of both male and female XLR's together at the sleeve of the TRS Insert. There is still a ground going from the mixer to pin 3.

Is there another way to wire an insert cable without having a ground in between?

I hope someone can help me out on this one!

Cheers,
Melvin

Unbalanced TRS insert connections REQUIRE the Sleeve / XLR-pin 1 in the signal path.
You CANNOT lift the ground connection on an ordinary TRS insert/return connection.
That SOS article completely sidestepped the question and answer.

If you have a problem with ground-loop hum, then the next step is to try isolation transformers.
For example:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00356J8KE/
https://www.amazon.com/dp/product/B00BARTW42

These "stereo" (2-channel) gadgets will do nicely to isolate both the "Send" and "Return" signal.

Alright, I just tried it out and it seems to work. I have no more hums and buzzes. There is no RF noise as well so in this case, it works.

Transformers on everything would be an ideal solution but that is too expansive, unfortunately.

Thanks for the help though!
