Patchbay stereo connection

I’m looking to buy a balanced samson-s patchbay and have a quick question regarding stereo operation. When connecting various stereo rack fx, will each side of the stereo field (l/r) need it’s own set of channels on the bay or can I use a dual TS to TRS y-cable from the fx unit to free up more channels? See the image below..

In other words, can one input/output on the patchbay transmit/recieve stereo or does this need to be split between two separate channels?

Perhaps nobody understands the question.
On one level, the answer is obviously no. You can't squeeze two balanced channels through a one-channel path.

OTOH, you can use a TRS connector for two ("left" & "right") channels if they are UNbalanced.
This is how headphone/earbud connectors work.

It's also how the unbalanced insert points of many consoles work, only instead of tip and ring being left and right, they're send and return.
