Time Selecting

Apologize in advance for the newbie question. Just trying to figure out how to make a time selection for editing or, say, a punch-in without being limited by the beats per minute of the project?

In any reaper project that I create, I only seem to be able to make a time selection based on the BPM of the project, so I'm unable to select any areas between beats.

My current work-around has been to set the BPM of the project to a ridiculously high number. But this obviously prevents me from using the BPM of the project for things like click tracks and other editing/looping features.

The following images illustrate the problem fairly well. Thanks in advance!

Disable snap.

Clicking on the icon that looks like a magnet in the toolbar in the top left hand corner toggles the snap feature on and off. Or go to the actions menu and search 'toggle snap' or 'disable snap' and set up whatever key command you like.

Snap / grid settings can also be found under the options menu.
