Well, in my book the Audix D2 and D4 (sometimes even the D6) is absolutely great on toms. Warm, punchy and little bleed from other parts of the kit.kfhkh

well, everbody needs to get happy doing his/her own thing and i'm certainly not going to tell anyone (newbie or seasoned pro) how s/he should be doing things...

however, having worked for a cymbal manufacturer for many years and literally with thousands of drummers (from charlie benate to tony williams), i got a pretty clear idea how and which mics work on cymbals - imo, ime, for my ears and according to my taste, ribbons are mostly not amongst them; same for condensers on toms and the combination being especially 'problematic'... - but have fun using whatever YOU think is appropriate in the situations, rooms and venues you are working in!

I’ve been digging ribbons on toms. I have a pair of the Peluso TR-14 powered tubed. I love the position them fig 8 to cancel the cymbal bleed. Plus Robbins take eq very well which u sometimes have to do because they’re positioned a little off axis. Weird I know but it works well on the rack toms. Then I use ATM25 on floor.
