Bass Traps: On Floor vs. Off Floor

I have four 2' x 4' OC703 bass traps I made (4 inch thick).

Right now I just have them resting on the floor in each corner of the room. Is there an advantage to raising them off the floor a bit (perhaps more surface area), or even putting them higher (against the ceiling)?

The room is a general purpose tracking room, with both drums and a bass amp, etc. My thought is that it might be better to have them lower, especially behind the drum kit (kick drum) and behind the bass amp.

Thanks for any help!

angled them on the floor would be best as you're covering 3 boundary intersections vs 2 when you have it in the corner but raised off the floor

Hi,

If they're 2'x4', is that really practical?

Sure it is. Covering the tri corner will absorb a bit more low end. How much more really depends on the room. I would just go with what is easiest and looks best. In a smaller room raising it to the middle may help with some SBIR if there is that problem.
