Guru, is the R6 from Insulco too?

I'm from Australia and trying to find the best solution for my acoustic dilemmas!

This thread has been particularly useful, thanks to everyone for providing so much information!

Hey Milk,..

I finally settled on a different product...

Bradford R3 rockwool "Sound Screen"

They are 120mm thick and are around 34kg/m3

and heaps cheaper

I figured that something more than twice the thickness (120mm) at 34kg

is equivalent to of 50mm with twice the density.

I went ahead and built 2 vertical floor to ceiling traps
about 1100mmm x 2400 in the front corners.
and one 3000 x 1100 over the mix position.

with my pre existing treatments it has made the room awesome.

the low frequencies translate perfectly what I hear is 100% CORRECT.
no more listening through multiple monitors and systems to get my mixes right.

The product I used "R3 rockwool 120mm soundscreen" comes with 9 per bag 430x580x120 and cost me $32.32 per pack. I got it from a company that moves mountains of the stuff..

Where are you located?

You might also like to consider a product from CSR Bradford called Anticon.

It is a roofing blanket can buy it in a roll at bunnings 12 sqM for about $120. I do not know what the density is. Is foil backed, but foil can be peeled off (Easier to cut when it is on)

THanks Gurubuzz and Mihaly.

I'll definitely check out those products.

I'm located in Western Australia, Perth.

The Sound Screen product sounds fantastic for the price, i'm definitely going to look into that and see if I can get find a good distributor.

What was your pre-existing treatment Guru?

I have a massive helmoltz resonator which looks like a fake slanted ceiling.

It is 80 cm deep on one end and about 30 cm on the other.
It has 24 3600x45x90 slats with 6mm gaps.

This starts a little behind the sitting position above my head and goes right back behind to the wall where the low part is.

And it has about 2 cubic meters of soft foam off cuts from a factory in it.

I'll post some pics if I can find them.

Oh yes the R3 SoundScreen is not floppy. It's not as rigid as the corning 703
but remember we are not trying to save space with the R3 or thicker.

the 50mm really dense stuff is for maximum absorption in a small space.

Good luck..

Hey Guru,

I'm heading off to my local bunnings to order the soundscreen today. They can order if for $41, which is a little more expensive, but not anything worth worrying about, especially considering I received gift vouchers for bunnings for my birthday :P

For the moment i'm going to order 5 packs, which, according to my plans, should cover enough space. It was very handy to find out that the measurements (not width of course) were almost exactly the size of 1 full page of newspaper print (folded out), so I just walked around and mapped out how much I would need.

Thanks for the help!
I'll let you know how everything going.

Give them Construct Ramsay's No. in Victoria and get them to beat the price by 10% (03) 9561 3455 That's 50 bucks in your pocket for screws..

Not that you'll get many screws from Bunnings for $50

hang on they screw you on everything so I suppose you'll get a lot of screw for your money. Them screwing us

How's their Moto... "Lowest prices are just the beginning"

because in the end when they run everybody into the ground they will jack the prices up more then they already do...

They had a plank of dressed pine 120mmx19mmx2400mm

for $8.50

After price matching I got it from them for $2.05...

and the bunnings staff will read a lie off their computer and say ..."hang on that's less than what we pay for it"

I only got it from Bunnings because my usual wood seller was out of stock on the 120mm.

And it will take you an hour to find half a dozen straight pieces out of Bunnings' pile of warped twisted and bent wood...

Good luck

sorry for the rant but I hate giant monopolistic, "kill the opposition at any cost, no mercy" horrible companies...

OR call your local Bradford Trade centre and ask them who is the cheapest Insulation seller, With the building boom there will be someone who moves mountains of the stuff at very low profit margins.

I finally found out from my local supplier that I can't get Fibretex 350 with any type of facing unless I'm ordering a minimum of 500sqft, which I don't need.

So all this time wasted waiting on crap service when I could've had the traps finished by now.

The size of the sheets are awkward being 1500mmx900mm, so getting 1200mmx600mm pieces means gluing 2-4 bits together to form a single sheet.

Any recommendations on what type of adhesive to use?
