Putting speakers close to the side walls

Hi everyone,

provided that there's good bass treatment (such as the entire rear wall or a sufficient amount of corners filled with rockwool), are there any major concerns about putting the speakers close to the side walls (about a foot or even less) ?

Provided that there's also side wall treatment (4 to 8 inch thick (depending on the GFR) absorber panels for early reflections), and there's also a subwoofer for the very low frequencies (< ~100Hz).

I think close proximity to side walls might help with side wall SBIR / comb filtering issues; analogously to putting the speakers close to the front wall to fight front wall SBIR.

Looking forward to hearing your opinions.

Have a nice day!

Most people consider putting the speakers close to the wall the right way. Usually it's the front wall.

If you're close to the side walls and the front walls, especially equally, you're going to double the problems it causes.

If you have no choice, I'd consider mounting them in some kind of absorption, which is sort of what the attack wall premise is.

Also, the definition of "enough absorption" is enough absorption that it solves the problems this positioning causes. So if it's truly "enough" then it would be fine.
