Seeking ideas for mounting a cloud WITHOUT actually drilling into the ceiling...

Title pretty much says it. Like many folks here, I'm in a rented space and, well you get it. I am just curious as to how others have dealt with this, if at all.

Depending on the weight of the panels you want to hang, you could attach wire across the top of the room, anchored on the walls and place panels on top of a wide spaced grid.

Your walls may be easier to plug holes in than your ceiling. Other than that, you'd most likely be looking at some sort of floor standing support that your can MacGuyver some panels up on to.

it's easy to do but unsightly

4 wooden posts, one at each corner.

A lattice made of lintels resting on the 4 posts.

either a pergola

In aluminium it's so easy and less unsightly.
