I usually checked on this thread when I was away from my studio, so I wasn't going to comment on the audio samples based on what I could hear on an iPhone or iPad. After some of the stranger comments about what you should hear (and that you are some kind of idiot if you don't hear it "correctly") I lost interest in the samples. I apologize for not listening to the vocals, which was your very reasonable ask.

Now to me this isn't a deal breaker, however, I think sonically I will benefit from having the U89's as my OH's and the akg on the kick.
The balance will behave better I imagine.
I truly appreciate your compliments, and you visiting would be awesome !!
There's nothing like a fresh pair of ears, especially with your experience brother.
My wife works M-F and I'm a stay at home dad with a 15 month old, so that would prove difficult to focus with her driving us bananas lol
I do have Sat and Sun off, but you wouldn't be coming into the city then :-(
If I can fenagle a weekday, which day are you thinking ?
And more importantly what time frame ?
And thank you by the way, this is such a kind thing for you to do brother,
Unless your of course a murderer lol
Psykostx like the name suggests,
I'm just being silly.
My bad, some soda was spilled on my laptop the other night. I had to wait for it to dry, then take it apart and clean off the motherboard which was covered in a plastic sheet that instead of shielding it from liquid made one drop spread across half the circuitry hahaha The touchpad and keyboard still don't work, I think the micro-ribbon cable is slightly off contact so I have to take it apart all over again. Right now I'm using a USB mouse and keyboard.

Anyways, yes I am a murderer, of audio and electronics troubles and I'll be in touch about stopping by next week to do some slaying! I knew proximity effect was a problem but your room treatment and polarity correction remedies will bring your recordings to the next level, you'll see (or hear rather).

Good morning everyone, Here are a few audio samples of my U89's.
Just a little bit of eq and reverb.
These mic's sound so good on the drums, i am very happy with them.
I can hear a big difference when both OH's are the same, the OH's are no longer fighting each other with different frequencies.
The bass drum mic is an akgD112.
And on the acoustic guitar, they are so balanced to me.
Up next, a few vocals.

Uh oh !!!!!!!
I made a big mistake and uploaded the wrong guitar files lol
I've been doing so many tests that I got them mixed up completely.
The two audio samples I uploaded are the marked u89 drums, and u89 guitars,
The u89 guitars sample is actually the Audio Technica 4033a mic******
I am turning the studio on now to upload the Real u89 guitar files.
So sorry, I'm an idiot.
Bare with me.....

Ok here it is.
i did my best to match the levels.
What i hear right away, is a more even tonal quality with the U89,
Compared to the 4033a.
Although the 4033a sounds very nice, there is a slight boxiness compared to the 89.
The eq is the exact same on both takes.
I hear that Neumann magic that makes a difference in my ears.
Enjoy.
Ps- I'm primarily using the 89's as drum OH's, but now since they sound beautiful on acoustic guitar, I need another one.
Drives me crazy to keep moving mic's and shock mounts around, messes with the flow of recording.
Next up.... vocals.

Hello everyone,
I did a few vocals with the U89 no eq or effects at all.
The guitars have eq.
I personally think that this microphone is amazing for my silly little voice.
It sounds this clear and present without anything on it.
I sang about 8 inches away.
Again i am a huge fan of microphones that pick up what your putting down without a lot of extra sauce.
This will conclude my test series lol
Drums, acoustic guitar and vocals.
Thank you for listening.
And I thank you all for your valuable input and encouragement;-)

I wanted to upload another U89 vocal sample.
with the eq i cut a little around 50hz, and There is only a slight boost around 10k
I am starting to get used to the microphone a little more.
Proximity on this mic is interesting because as i sing closer, of course you get more bottom, but in a nice way.
As time goes on like anything, you start to become more comfortable "-)
Hope you all enjoy it.
U89 into an Apogee quartet right into Logic 9 on a MacBook pro.

I just tried it with a 6dB/oct 240Hz HP in TotalMix.
Not 'right or wrong, just another 'take or view on it.
Seems to make it sit in size wise with the the keys backing?

Wow taking everything off the walls is a project lol.
Here's another thing to take into consideration.
I am doing everything in this one small room.
I have to record, mix and master in here.
Right now I feel my mixes are pretty damn good.
So if I start to remove the treatment,
Now the recording might be better, but when I mix, everything will sound different ya know ?
I think I am going to try a quick vocal in my living room just to see what frequencies are there, then compare it to the take inside the studio.
At that point I should have a good idea what to take down, and how much.
Ditch the shag carpeting... That's so Redhook chic lol

How about having some gobos on wheels.... or panels that you can stick on mic stands, etc... moving blankets... Just for when you're doing vox. I'm building out a new one room space and I'm gonna do a similar modular sort of solution that I can get set up for vox... When I'm done, moving all the panels back into corners and/or 1st reflection points.

Thank you for listening Wayne :-)
This was done very rough, it wasn't supposed make sense in a mix, just showcasing the vocal for a moment.

Red hook chic lol good one bgood :-)
I did remove the shag carpet a month ago, and the recording of the drums lost its tightness, so I put it back.
Although this is a great idea, the room is dead enough to really record anything.

It's interesting no one had commented on my last two posts ?
The 4033a guitars versus the U89 guitars ?
Or the quality of the U89 vocals ?

Very nice (4033) double guitars. Curious / question, what happens at :41 for example- unlike the rest, one (lowish) note appears dead center?
Thanks.

I don't here anything that sounds like a lowish note appearing anywhere ?

Well that is the point isn't it. To see/hear the difference with the treated part.
