iLok Problems with PT11 on Retina MacBook Pro

Does anyone else here use Pro Tools 11 on a Retina MBP? Most of the time when I plug the iLok 2 in (with PT HD 11 license) and try to load up PT11 my iLok authorization isn't recognized. I checked on a few other systems and my iLok is not the issue, it's the Retina MBP itself. If I shut it down, reset the SMC and then boot back up it'll work fine. But it seems like every time I want to open Pro Tools I have to do this SMC reset in order for my iLok to be properly recognized. Anyone else experiencing this?

I assume you downloaded the latest ilok License manager and ran the sync/repair (right click on your ilok)....

Mine works fine on my retina MBP. I can't run it on my usb extender for some reason though (it has to be connected directly to my MBP, and can't be on a usb extender).

i had the same issue - i have to use it with a powered USB 2.0 hub - i think there may be an incompatibility with the USB 3.0 port on the rMBP.

Ah ok, so a powered USB 2.0 hub may fix it. Good to know, thanks!

yes, get a hub.
i got this one http://www.belkin.com/us/p/P-F5U237/ for the same reason and it doesn't even need to be powered.

Mine is also on a powered USB hub which solved the problem 90% of the time.
If it doesn't work I just unplug it and plug it back in and then it works.

Hmmm. Interesting. I don't have any issue using my iLok2 on either the USB port or on a powered hub.

Not running an rMBP but a 2012 Mini. Can't ever get my iLok to work on any of the 4 USB 3.0 ports. Luckily I already had and used a 2.0 powered hub, a Belkin, probably the same one linked above. Also works fine on the USB ports on every Apple keyboard I've ever tried.

I use this $16 Targus slim 4-port USB hub with my 2013 rMBP and it works perfect. The hub is very small, thin, the cable folds underneath when not using it. It is not powered but I've used everything from iLok 2 to Apple USB-Ethernet and never had a power issue or complaint from my rMBP.

I've tried other small hubs and usually get a power related complaint. Not sure what Targus did different but this is the way to go especially if you travel.

A tiny unpowered Ewent usb 2 hub seems to do the trick for me.

Oh, and a workaround that seems to work every time:
plugging in the Ilok2 without the power adapter attached.
On battery the usb3 ports start up as usb2 it seems.

Nevermind, not a structural solution..

My unpowered usb2 hub solves the problem almost always.
Almost :(

Has anyone found a 100% reliable solution?
